STOCKTON, California -- Mike David smoked them in the NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series winning the final event to ever be held at the 28-year-old historic Mesa Marin Raceway.
“Winning the last race at Mesa Marin Raceway is something everyone wanted, this was the highest profile race of the year, and the biggest win of my entire racing career,” stated David. “Although this is not my home track, I have always had a special place in my heart for this track. The first time I came to this track was back in 1984 and Jim Thirkettle won. I am just stunned about what I have accomplished there.”
Starting from a sixth place qualifying position, David ran towards the front all night; masterfully staying out of trouble, despite several close calls.
But, David credits the Lynch Racing crew and the final pit stop for propelling him into a position where he was able to grab the lead.
“Early on we were running a conservative race, but after the last pitstop the gloves came off. The crew made key changes to the car and performed a flawless pit stop; we almost beat the leader, Mike Duncan, out of the pits. The crew really made this happen. We worked on the car all weekend. I am not the greatest at qualifying but the crew gave me a great race setup. “
Following the quick stop and crucial setup change in the final pitstop of the night David grabbed the lead with 25-laps to go and never gave it up.
This was David’s second career West Series victory, but first of the season.
“I would like to thank the entire Lynch Racing crew for giving me a car that could go to the front.,” said an overjoyed David. “Also a big thanks goes to the owner Randy Lynch for his tremendous support. He gave us what we needed to get it done.”
Although this is the last race of the season, David has been invited to compete in the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown invitational at Irwindale Speedway on November 13th.
