Teenager Scott Dodd in the #25 (formally #5) Pontiac finished tenth in his very first Nascar Auto Zone Elite South West Tour Series at Mesa Marin’s Grand finale race this past weekend. Dodd had a lot of firsts this weekend. It was his first NASCAR Tour race, his first Nascar race, and his first race requiring pit stops, first 300-lap race and the first time ever even driving a Tour car. Scott recently turned 18 years old making him the youngest driver at the event. Friday’s practice session was Dodd’s first time in the car, by the end of the day he was running in the top ten.
Saturday started out great with Dodd running times in the 18.60’s during practice, but we had some electrical problems that had to be quickly corrected. For qualifying Dodd turned a time of 18.58, which was 21st fastest out of the 30 cars. During the race Scott was able to stay out of trouble and advance from his 21st starting position to bring home a top ten in his first South West Tour Series race.
