ANDERSON, California-- There is always something special about the last event of the year. This weekend should be no different. Following an exciting Win River 100 two weeks ago, Shasta Raceway Park will hold an event for the final time in 2005 this Saturday night and Sunday afternoon at the 3/8 mile paved oval in Anderson. Divisions firing it up this weekend will be the Legends, Bombers, and Mini-Stocks.

One of the most popular classes across the country will make one last visit to Shasta Raceway Park this year, as the Legends will take to the track for some intense action of their own in the Cox and Cox Construction West Coast Legend Classic. This will be the highest paying Legend race on the West Coast, with an impressive $1,500 going to the winner of the event. Drivers from all over the Western half of the United States will converge on Anderson, representing California, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, and Washington. Local drivers scheduled to run include 2004 track champion Howard Hammers and 2005 champion Micah Parmer, as well as Derek Copeland, and John Duckett, Jr. Those familiar names will be taking on some heavy hitting out of towners including Legends of the Pacific champion Steve Fensler, Jr. from Sacramento, 2005 SRL Late Model Champion Jason Fensler from Wilton, and Carson City track champion Mackena Bell. These drivers are fast and furious, and will be ready to put on a memorable show.

Bomber madness has not hit Shasta Raceway Park for quite a while now, but the bombers have quite a last hoorah in store. Around 40 cars are expected this weekend for the second of two races in the Shasta/Lakeport Bomber Challenge. Based on finishing order in Lakeport, the point standings are very tight. Ukiah’s Jeremy Donahoo currently leads the standings, with Cottonwood’s David Braund just five points behind, and Redding’s Eric Gannon in third. Loren Powers, Sr. of Ukiah and local driver Dave Lewallen round out the top five. Bragging rights are very much at stake in this division, so some bumping and banging should be expected.

The Mini-Stocks have not been on track at SRP since NASCAR championship night, so many of these drivers are eager to get back on track to close out the year. In addition to local Mini-Stocks, there are cars entered from other parts of California, as well as from Oregon and Washington.

This Saturday night, gates open at 4:30, with qualifying starting at 5:15, and racing starting at 6:30. The night’s racing will include trophy dashes and heat races.
