SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA --On Saturday, October 29, 2005, Orange Show Speedway will play host to the 3rd Annual PRO-4 SHORT TRACK NATIONALS. This open Pro-4 Late Model show is the headlining event at the high-banked ¼ mile facility. Also on the race card will be the ASA Late Models, ASA Street Stocks and Sport Compacts.
In 2003 the PRO-4 SHORT TRACK NATIONALS began a tradition that will follow for many years, the uniqueness of this event attracts drivers and teams from around the country. Several teams will make the long trek from Washington, Utah, Idaho, Oregon and as far away as Michigan. This year the event will pay out a record $12,000 to the competitors that can manage to keep their 200 horsepower Late Models on the track and out of trouble for the 100 lap feature on Saturday night.
The feature event will see 24 cars battle it out for 100 laps with a fuel break at 50 laps, drivers will have to develop a strategy to stay on the lead lap with several of the California teams including last years winner Tim Carruther from Yucaipa. Carruther recently claimed the 2005 Soboba Casino ASA Pro-4 points Championship at the Orange Show Speedway.
The Orange Show Speedway has one of the largest Pro-4 divisions in the country and is one of six ASA divisions participating at the Orange Show Speedway in 2005. Over 40 cars are expected to enter this event due to the high purse and the fact that no other Pro-4 event races for 100 laps in the main event.
The format is simple, take the top 16 qualifiers and transfer them automatically to the main event, then take the top 4 finishers from the 50 lap semi main event and transfer them with the remaining 4 spots open for a promoters choice to fill out the 24 car field.
Local favorites Eddie Secord from Bloomington, Yucaipa’s Brett Edwards, Rex Lockwood from Victorville and Tim Carruther from Yucaipa are all expected to be some of the top performers. Fans will be treated to a great night of family entertainment for this big shoot-out for the big money.
In the ASA Late Model division rookie driver Anthony Maniella leads the ASA Late Model point battle by a mere six points over Dave Arce and Richard Hooper. Arce and Hooper are lock in a tie for second. This Saturday is the final event of the season and will surely have fans on their feet cheering for their favorite driver to clinch a championship.
Tom Gilstrap can clinch his first ASA Street Stock title on Saturday, he holds a six point lead over Cliff Conklin and Coke Frederick is in third, several points back.
Spectator gates will open at 5:00 pm and racing will begin at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for senior and military, $4 for Juniors 6-12 yrs. old and children under 5 are free.
