SCHRADER WINS SOUTHWEST SERIES FINALE WHILE PETTIT CLINCHES SECOND CHAMPIONSHIP

AVONDALE, Arizona -- NASCAR NEXTEL Cup veteran Ken Schrader out ran Matt Crafton to claim the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series finale at Phoenix Int'l Raceway Thursday afternoon. Dan Fredrickson, Tim Schendel, and Auggie Vidovich rounded out the top five finishers in the 125-lap Arizona Lottery sponsored event.

Jim Pettit II from Prunedale, Calif. clinched his second consecutive Southwest Series title with a ninth place finish joining Ron Hornaday and Steve Portenga as the only two time series champions. Vidovich finished second in the final standings with Eddy McKean, Burney Lamar, and Nick Lynch rounding out the top five in the final standings.

Don Campbell had a short day after being involved in a lap one incident not of his making, but claimed the Sunoco Rookie-of-the-Year title. Campbell was the only rookie to start all 14 Southwest Series races this season and was the top finishing rookie six times.

The race took two hours and eight minutes to complete and finished under the lights for the first time at Phoenix. Dustin Jones of Tucson, Ariz won the $750 PowerAde Award for improving the most positions in the race (23), while Darrell LaMoure claimed the $300 Featherlite Award for improving the most positions from the previous event (14).

Fifteen of the 42 starters will load up and head West on Interstate 10 and join the rest of the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division competitors for the third annual NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown at Irwindale (CA) Speedway Friday and Saturday night.

The Southwest Series will resume its 21st season back here in January 2006. For all the latest news and information log onto www.nascarregionalracing .com####
