DON CAMPBELL WINS NASCAR SOUTHWEST SERIES ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

CAMPBELL, California -- Don Campbell won the Sunoco Rookie of the Year title in the NASCAR AutoZone Southwest Series. Campbell beat many great rookie drivers including Ryan Foster, Dustin Jones, Stephan Sadler and David Mayhew. Campbell finished with the most overall Rookie points for the 2005 season and also had the best eight finishes used to calculate the winner. In 14 starts, Campbell had 6 Rookie wins, 8 2nd place Rookie finishes and two top-ten overall finishes. With this prestigious win, Campbell joins former Southwest Series Rookie of the Year winners Kurt Busch and Kevin Harvick who now drive in the Nextel Cup.

Previously, in 2004, Campbell had 21 starts racing Late Models at Altamont Raceway finishing with 1 win, 1 trophy dash win, 4 top-fives, 16 top-tens and was runner-up Rookie of the Year. In 2003, Campbell competed in the SCCA Pro Speed World Challenge, racing his Corvette C5R throughout the U.S. and Canada. Campbell’s races regularly appeared on the Speed Channel television network. In 2002, Campbell won NASA’s CMC Season Championship. Campbell set six road race track records at Buttonwillow, Thunderhill, Willow Springs, California Speedway, Spring Mountain and Infineon Raceway. In 2001, Campbell was on the first place team at the U.S. National Viper Championships. Campbell won SCCA Solo II Regional championships in 1998, 1999 and 2000.
