CARSON CITY, Nevada -- Officials behind the proposed Nevada Motor Speedway (NMS) project have announced a petition has been distributed to over 32 convenient locations in Northern Nevada.
Jeb Onweiler and Robert Kline are the principles behind the NMC project. Both have extensive motorsports managerial experience and live in Carson City. In 2003, Onweiler served as General Manager, and Kline as Race & Tech Director, at the now-closed Champion Motor Speedway.
Said Onweiler; “I sat down with Rich Cable (owner of the Reno-Fernley Raceway) about a month ago and discussed the possibility of adding a new asphalt oval to his motorsports and entertainment facility. At that time, Rich indicated we’d need to make sure there was strong interest from racers, fans, and sponsors to warrant giving the project serious consideration. So Robert suggested we start a petition drive to help prove our project has merit.”
Kline added, “I feel it’s real important that all racers and fans take the time to sign this petition, otherwise asphalt racing in northern Nevada might go away for a long time. We need to show Rich that an asphalt program will be a positive addition to his motorsports park.”
Racers and fans can sign the petition at the following locations until December 24.
Northern Nevada locations: All Les Schwab Tire Centers.
Carson City locations: Vital Signs, DC Motorsports, NAPA Auto Parts, Ponderosa Stamp & Engraving, Entertaining Ideas, Batteries Plus, Copeland Lumber, Carson Carburetor & Ignition, and Carl’s Blueprint & Copy.
Reno-Sparks locations: 7-Up Bottling Company, ORCO Construction Supplies, House of Bread, RWW Fabricating, Batteries Plus, Ahern Rentals, Carquest Auto Parts, Auto Diesel Electric, and Copes Marine.
Minden-Gardnerville locations: Carquest Auto Parts.
Reno-Fernley Raceway is a 500-acre multi-use motorsports & entertainment complex located 5 miles south of Fernley, NV. It features a 4.3-mile road course, 3/8-mile clay oval, and 1/4-mile drag strip. Special event venues include; sand drags, mud bogs, super moto, freestyle MX, along with a shooting range and paintball arena.
RFR is part of an expansive 3000-acre master plan that includes the current motorsports park. Future plans also call for the construction a new hotel, casino, golf course, RV park, go kart track, and taxiway home sites adjacent to Tiger Field Airport (N58), which is large enough to accommodate corporate jets.
