DAYTONA BEACH, Florida -- The NASCAR Grand National West Driver Achievement award winner Andrew Myers completed two days of testing at the Daytona International Speedway with high marks from his mentors and his sights sets on returning in February for the ARCA 200.
“Andrew showed he has the driving ability to run at this place,” said co-crew chief Phil Bonifield. “The kid improved each time his was on the track. I think he’ll run real well here (in the race)” added co-crew chief Jamie Aube.
Veteran ACRA competitor and car owner Bobby Gerhart, who supplied the Monte Carlo for Myers to test, was equally impressed. “Myers has a quick learning curve and communicates very well. He did real good for his first time here”.
For Andrew Myers, the young driver from Huntington Beach, running the high banks of Daytona for the first time seemed like a real thrill. “Man this place is awesome. I can’t wait to run here again. Phil, Jamie and Bobby really helped me. I can see why this track is so special. I’m really looking forward to racing here.”
Myers finished the rain-shorten test in fifteenth place on the speed charts with a fast lap time of 49.691. Andrew, Phil, and Jamie will now ready the Toyota Of Escondido/Red Line Oil Monte Carlo for the Cooper World Classic at Phoenix International Raceway on January 22, 2006.![]()
