Los Angeles, California -- Early on Sunday December 18th, 2006, a group of racers headed out from their warm beds to the cold reality of skid row in downtown Los Angeles. The group comprised of Performance Motorsports team members, NASCAR AutoZone officials, sponsors, friends and families set out to bring some Christmas cheer to the less fortunate families that reside in the inner city section of Los Angeles known as skid row. Getting cheered on by the Mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa, Fred Jordan's widow, Willie Jordan and other dignitaries, the group did a hard days work and came away knowing that they had indeed made a difference in the lives of children.
The Fred Jordan Mission founded in 1943 by the late Glendora resident Fred Jordan, runs the Christmas party with a give-away that attracts over 20,000 recipients. They are treated to a Christmas Worship Service that has entertainment provided by The Walt Disney Company. They are also treated to toys, clothes, food and toiletries provided by many benefactors. The Fred Jordan Mission is a huge fan of NASCAR racing and the employees regularly follow the AutoZone Grand National West Series.
Performance Motorsports, that runs the King Taco Racing # 77 driven by Steve Portenga, would like to thank Becky McBride (who worked that day in memory of Jeff Anthony) and Cindy Levin who helped out on behalf of NASCAR and all the other team members and friends that showed up that day to help spread the Christmas Cheer.
