RED BLUFF, California -- Quickly moving up the ladder in his racing career, Michael Hubert III has not forgotten his Outlaw Kart roots as he raced his Gary Perkin's owned, Sy's Auto Body, Bergen Construction, sponsored kart to a 2.3 second win Saturday night in the Open Outlaw Kart A Main during the annual 6 foot Perpetual Trophy Night as the Red Bluff Indoor Winter Season closed the January portion of their schedule. Hubert III out ran the 16 kart pack of the fastest Outlaw Kart drivers in the world despite smoke pouring from the motor area and a near meltdown of the fiberglass body on the motor side. Multiple track champion Tyler McCain settled for second place, but emerged as the new division point leader when the current point leader Tyler Wolf didn't make the transfer out of the B Main. There was no touching Dillon Silverman in the Open Intermediate Division 25 lap Main Event as drove his QRC Factory Kart to a four second win ahead of Andrew Cumpton. Point leader Mason Moore ran a strong third which helped him build his points margin. This was Silverman's second trip to the podium having won the 2004 Perpetual Trophy for the 125 class.
RJ Johnson picked a great night to post his first feature win of the winter in the 125/250cc Intermediate Class. Johnson, sponsored by Robinson Engineering and Team FBR Racing, won the 25 lap feature by just 1/3 of a second ahead of a determined Thomas Bruckenstein and ¾ of a second in front of point leader Brian Southers. Box Stock racer Casey McClain followed up last week's feature win with another 30 lap triumph in the Box Stocks. This is McClain's third Perpetual Trophy win. He was the Red Bluff Beginner Box Stock trophy winner several seasons ago, and holds a Perpetual Trophy from Cycleland Speedway where he also nabbed the Pro Box Stock Championship this past summer. McClain is sponsored in part by Eric Ross Tile Co., Mike's Auto Body, Corning Ford and QRC. Carson City's Kellcy Bell had built a half-lap lead over Lain Baker in the A Main Feature only to have a yellow flag tighten the field with six laps to run. Baker tangled with Bell which allow McClain to pace the remainder of the race.
The top three in track points dueled for the Beginner Box Stock big trophy victory. Chase Majdic won by a half second over point leader Richie Carrel. Devin Lee ran third. Majdic's win cut Richie Carrel's point lead to 11 tallies. After failing to post a time, Paul Baker in his ETB and Horstman sponsored kart won the F200 15 lap feature by six seconds ahead of point runner-up Braedon Enos and point leader Alyssa Hogan. Hogan's point lead is now just 6 points over Enos.
During a break in the action, Marty Melo from Melo Gordon Motorsports announced that 14 year old Alyssa Geving from Penngrove, CA has secured a JME/Microsoft MSN sponsor for the 2006 year under the Microsoft "Real Heroes" grassroots program. Alissa and Nicholas Bellamy (Microsoft X-BOX) as teammates the remainder of the Red Bluff season and a full Cycleland season. Congratulations to Alissa !
The Outlaws have two weekends off to get ready for NAPA Auto Parts Night on February 4th. This is traditionally one of the biggest and best nights of racing for the season. NAPA supplies an enormous amount of special awards, prizes, and some great door prizes for the fans. With only three races left in the Winter Series the battle for points is near its peak which makes for some great racing.
