
AVONDALE, Arizona --Current NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series star Matt Crafton returned to his roots Sunday afternoon and claimed the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series portion of the the 29th Copper World Classic at Phoenix Int'l Raceway. Crafton passed Ken Schrader with ten laps to go to claim his fifth series victory and first since his championship year back in 2000. Ken Schrader, Eric Holmes, Tim Schendel and Rip Michels rounded out the top five finishers. The race was shortened to 85 laps from the scheduled 100 lap distance due to time constraints. Eddy McKean scored his tenth top ten finish at Phoenix after running as high as third. Two-time and defending Southwest Series champion Jim Pettit II finished a disappointing 31st after suffering engine trouble. Jason Fensler, M.K. Kanke, Auggie Vidovich, and Nick Lynch rounded out the top ten finishers. Kanke claimed both the $300 Featherlite Award for improving the most positions from the previous event (22), and the PowerAde Award for improving the most positions in this event (36).
