PHOENIX, Arizonia -- “What is going on? Are we running over cactus?” said co-crew chief Jamie Aube after driver Andrew Myers radioed in to the Toyota of Escondido/Red Line Oil pit crew about a second tire going flat during the United Rentals 125 NASCAR Grand National Division, AutoZone West Series portion of the Copper World Classic at Phoenix International Raceway. Ken Schrader of Fenton, Mo. would go on to win the event while the two unscheduled pits stops for new tires resulted in a 21st place finish for Myers and his Huntington Beach, CA based team.
The two cut tires took away an impressive 5th place qualifying effort by the #44 crew. “It is a shame said co-crew chief Phil Bonifield. We had a good car and Andrew had picked up so much speed from practice to qualifying that we had every reason to believe we would finish in the top ten today.” “Goodyear makes a great tire. We must have run over something sharp still on the track from one of the three other races they ran here before us today, said a disappointed Andrew Myers. I am already looking forward to racing Daytona in a couple of weeks.”
The next race for Andrew Myers will be the ACRA 200 at Daytona International Speedway on February 11, 2006.![]()
