With Co-sponsorship from MSD Ignition and Five Star Engine Exchange the Border Racing Association’s 2006 Barnett Harley-Davidson Touring Series is set to kick off March 17 and 18 at Canyon Raceway in Peoria, Arizona. This series will span three states and seven tracks over a seven month period. Each tour series A-main has a total minimum purse of $5,975 with the feature winner pocketing $1,000 and paying $100 to start. B-main non-qualifiers receive $50.
The next two races are in Arizona, running April 14 and 15 at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix and May 27 and 28 at Central Arizona Raceway at Casa Grande. The series then moves to New Mexico and Texas to run the Fiesta Days Modified Show on Friday and Saturday, June 2 and 3 at Aztec Speedway in Farmington, New Mexico, July 28 at El Paso Speedway Park in Texas and July 29 at Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces.
The series will wrap up on Labor Day weekend with a final stop at USA Speedway in Tucson, Arizona on Sep 2 and 3.
For 2006 all BHDS Tracks scheduled their regular races around Touring Series events which will allow more racers to contest the entire tour series. Defending Touring Series Champion, Curt Barnett will fight to keep the title; battling some of the toughest competition the southwest has ever seen. Heading the list of competitors is Barnett Harley-Davidson Series Champion, Bumper Jones of Mesilla Park, New Mexico as well as the red hot Johnny Scott, fresh off his 10K win in the Winter Meltdown at SNMS. CAR’s 10K Turkey Shoot Winner, Christy Georges, will also be competing along with series sponsor Sherman Barnett. From the Las Cruces/El Paso area is Stormy Scott, Patrick Carney, Troy Godwin, and series coordinator, Scott Logston. Out of the Tucson area we expect BHDS Champion runner up R.C. Whitwell along with Dana Fite, Paul Banghart, and late model star Adam Crippen. Representing the Phoenix area in the series will be Manazanita Champion, Anthony Madrid with Jason Noll, Jason Black, and Kenny Wyman also expected to compete.
The top ten finishers will receive series points fund money thanks to MSD Ignitions, Five Star Engine and Cylinder Head Exchange, Barnett Harley-Davidson, and Barnett Auto Sales. MSD is a long time sponsor of the BRA and they return again for 2006. Founded in 1970 as a research and development company, MSD is the most used ignition system in NASCAR, NHRA, IHRA, WOO and more. Five Star Engine and Cylinder Head Exchange has supported racing in the Phoenix area for years and has joined the BRA for the Touring Series in 2006. Since 1990, Five Star has remanufactured and sold thousands of engines and their complete machine shop is state-of-the-art. GAT Racing out of Tucson, Arizona will offer a $50 certificate to the Hard Charger at each event. Flexi Flyer in Phoenix, Arizona will have a $50 certificate for a mystery finisher at each event. JR Motorsports, based in Iowa, will offer a $25 certificate for the last place finisher at each event. Also providing contingencies for the Series are Braswell Carburetion, and Marsh Racing Wheels. Frisco Signs of El Paso will provide the commemorative $1000 check for each race winner to take home.
