MONROE, Washington -- Evergreen Speedway’s first ever 500-lap Last Survivor Enduro race on Saturday March 25, was a success. Fifty Four cars started the race and twenty nine received the checkered flag. The win went to John Zaretzke with Steve Baumgartner second and Gaylon Stewart third.
The race was completed in 3hours 31 minutes. Only three yellows and a red slowed the blistering pace. Donald Hall led the first 169 laps before he relinquished it to Chris Williamson. Hall returned to the lead on lap 198 and held it until race winner John Zaretzke moved to the front on lap 208. Zaretzke would never give up the lead and was the only one on the lead lap from 298 through 500.
In Victory Lane Zaretzke said “I totally lost my brakes by lap 300”. The second position was won by Steve Baumgartner. In the post race interview “I feel bad about Donald Hall having to leave the track with 15-laps remaining”. Hall’s car suffered motor problems and had to retire early after holding the second spot from lap 208. A consistent race for Gaylon Stewart had him finishing third.
