REDDING, California -- While persistent wet weather canceled the season opener for the North State Challenge Series at Shasta Raceway Park this Saturday and the Outlaw Kart race at Cycleland Speedway, members of the Melo Gordon Motorsports team left the dampness behind and headed for Arizona - Prescott Valley Raceway to be exact.
Team members, including owner/CEO Marty Melo, Super Late Model driver Neil Gordon and Crew Chief Jason Fensler, Outlaw Kart driver Alissa Geving and her father, Gary, along with team sponsor and supporter Lee St. Pierre took off for Arizona to support teammate Mason Moore, who is competing in a season-opening Arizona midget race on Saturday night.
“At least one of our team members is racing this weekend, so we thought we would go give Mason our support,” Melo said. “This midget race is a great opportunity for him to show his ability against some top-notch competition, and we wanted to be there for him. All of us have been itching to get to the race track, and we were really looking forward to getting the North State Challenge Series season started, but now we have to wait a couple of more weeks, and I know Alissa is really anxious to get her spring and summer season started.”
Moore, 15, of Princeton, Calif., recently joined the Melo Gordon Motorsports team after a successful season racing outlaw karts. He won the 2005-06 Open Intermediate Championship at Red Bluff and will be competing in the Cycleland Speedway series this spring and summer. Moore plans to compete in eight-to-10 Arizona Midget Racing Association races throughout Arizona this summer.
“We’ve worked hard to get to this point, and now, we just need some cooperation from Mother Nature so we can go racing,” Melo said. “All three of our drivers are ready, and I’m looking for great things from all of them.”
The next scheduled race for Neil Gordon and the Super Late Model team is Saturday, April 29th at Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka, Calif., while Alissa Geving and Mason Moore will look to make their Cycleland Speedway 2006 debuts on April 22.![]()
