The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is set for three events during the month of May starting on Saturday Night, May 13 at the Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN, followed the next weekend with back to back shows in Iowa and Illinois. On Friday Night, May 19 the series visits the Farley Speedway in Farley, IA and the next night travels to the La Salle Speedway in La Salle, IL. All three shows for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will feature Comp Cams Time Trials, PBM Performance Products Heat Races, Mason Racin' Rebel Shock Dyno B-Mains and $10,000 to win/$700 to start feature events. The first race of the month will be at "The Taz" on May 13th as the Gary Hall owned facility will see the second ever visit by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series to his "Bristol of Dirt" facility. In 2005 Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN came home the victor over a stout field of cars last Labor Day weekend. The next weekend the series ventures to the Hawkeye State of Iowa on Friday Night, May 19th with a return visit to the Simmons Promotions facility, Farley Speedway in Farley, IA. Last year in the Series initial visit to Farley it was 2005 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Rookie of the Year Scott James of Lawrenceburg, IN coming home the winner in his only win on the Series Tour in '05. The next night the series travels east to Kerrianne Izzo's La Salle Speedway in La Salle, IL as the Illini State sees the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series for the first time in 2006 as La Salle presents the "Spring Shootout". Last season the series visited La Salle twice with Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, WI and Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA taking the wins. Heading into the 75 lap Lincoln Mercury of Knoxville presented event at Tazewell on May 13th there is a tight points battle for the 2006 Championship Title. Earl Pearson, Jr. of Jacksonville, Fl, the 2005 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion currently sits atop the standings by just 35 points over Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH. Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN is only 65 points out of the lead coming to Tazewell. Matt Miller of Waterville, OH and Doug Horton of Bruceton Mills, WV are currently fourth and fifth in the points standings after the last event at Hagerstown, MD. The rest of the top 10 include: Tim Dohm of Cross Lanes, WV, Scott James, of Lawrenceburg, IN, Dennis Erb, Jr. of Carpentersville, IL, Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN and Freddy Smith of Seymour, TN. Casebolt is currently the top "Rookie of the Year' driver leading Brady Smith of Solon Springs, WI, Michael England of Glasgow, KY, Corey Conley of Wellsburg, WV, Damon Eller of Crumpler, NC and Steve Hillard of Sadorus, IL. With 11 events in the books there have been nine different winners at Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events in 2006. Only Steve Francis of Ashland, KY and Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN have been able to win more than one race this season on the ultra tough tour. Other drivers who have visited victory lane in '06 include: Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI, Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR, Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA, Matt Miller of Waterville, OH, Earl Pearson, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC and Chub Frank of Bear Lake, PA.
