It took 60 laps for Scotty Backman to put his Xtreme Signs and Graphics Pontiac into the top position in the 100 Lap Wright Group Events and Services Late Models main event Saturday night at Colorado National Speedway. Coors Light presented the nights show and also Mike Cox took the win in the Sheds R Us Super Stocks, Joel Hansen won the Sunoco Race Fuels Grand American Moifieds, Gary Taylor was dominant in the RMMRA Midgets and Steel Dragon won the Witthar Racing Train race.

The 25–lap Midget main had Jim Doyle and Jim Cook on the front row. Doyle led early over Tony Rossi, Rossi took over the lead on lap 3 over Rauch, Gary Taylor, Rick Ellis and Steve Newman. Newman took fourth on lap 8 as Rauch took the lead on lap 9 with Taylor moving into second. On lap 10, Taylor shot into the lead with Rauch, Rossi, Brandon Ray and Newman now following. Jim Cook slowed and pulled off on lap 12, and Keith Rauch broke on lap 13 and pulled off. Taylor now led Rossi, Lee, Newman, and Kyle Rayburn. Ray took second from Rossi on lap 19, but Taylor was way out front. Taylor took the win over Ray, Rossi, Rayburn and Newman.

The 30-lap Grand American Modified main saw Forest Smith and Derek Clementson sit on the front row after Adam Shrove was pushed off the track before the green flag. Smith led Clementson, on the first lap. Jeff Purvis, Joel Hansen and Ed Vecchiarelli Jr rounded out the top five on lap 4. Hansen moved into second on lap 6 with Purvis now third ahead of Vecchiarelli Jr and Vecchiarelli. Nathan Gasser was black flagged on lap 6 for smoking. Ed Vecchiarelli Jr spun in turn 2 on lap 8 for a caution. Ed Vecchiarelli and Jeff Purvis were black flagged under the caution. Smith now led Hansen, Vecchiarelli Jr, Ronnie Stringfellow Jr and Clementson on the restart. Clementson and Stringfellow swapped positions on lap 9, before Stringfellow Jr took the position back on lap 11. Hansen took the lead on lap 12 with Smith back to second ahead of Vecchiarelli Jr, Stringfellow Jr, and Dany Clementson. On lap 23, Stringfellow Jr got around Vecchiarelli Jr for third position. Derek Clementson backed into the turn 1 wall on lap 25 for a caution. On the restart, Peter Jurickovich, Ryan Moore, Jeff Hansen and Mike Castagno tangled in turn 1 for a caution and Jim Stivaletta was sent off the track under the caution. Hansen held on for the win over Smith, Stringfellow Jr, Vecchiarelli Jr, and Dany Clementson.

The 25-lap Super Stock main was next to hit the track with Russ Middaugh and Pat Addy on the front row. Middaugh led early with Addy in second. Ric Lothert moved into third ahead of Mike Cox and Mark Neff. Lothert moved into the lead on lap 9 and Mike Cox was second on lap 10. Middaugh fell to third ahead of Pat Addy and Dennis Edwards. Caution flew on lap 12 for Tim Weaver as he broke in turn 1. Kurt Riddell spun unassisted in turn 2 on lap 14, and got going with out a caution. Emett Grazier and Addy tangled for a caution on lap 16, and both cars pitted. Lothert led Cox, Edwards, Middaugh, and AJ Grasso on the restart. Lothert took the narrow win over Cox, Edwards, Grasso, and Middaugh. Chris Naeb spun coming for the checkered flag and lost several positions. Lothert was disqualified after the race, and Cox took the win over Edwards, Grasso, Middaugh, and Mark Neff.

The 100-lap Late Model main event started with Mike Hannah and Chris Atkinson on the front row. Chris DeShon was pushed off before the green flag to leave 23 cars racing to the green flag. Hannah jumped out to the early lead with Atkinson and Darren Bucklen battling for second. Paul Deines and Mike Gallegos were in the top five at the end of lap 5. On lap 9, Randy Gastineau spun in turn 4 and got going again without a caution flag. Atkinson started pressuring Hannah for the lead on lap 13 with Paul Deines, Rick Smith and Darren Bucklen following. Gastineau spun again on lap 15 in turn 2 and regained control. By lap 20, Smith moved into third and started pressuring for second. Deines was now fourth ahead of Bucklen. On lap 22, Smith got under Hannah and shot to the lead with Hannah now second and Atkinson in third. By lap 25, Atkinson fell out of the top 5 with Deines, Bucklen, and Darren Robertson now in top five. On lap 30, Hannah spun in turn 4 for a caution, and the first 5 laps under caution were counted. The lap 34 restart, saw Smith lead Hannah as Hannah regained his position after the spin. By lap 40, Smith now led Deines, Bucklen, Backman, and Robertson as Hannah slid back. Backman got by both Bucklen and Deines by lap 44 and started trying to catch Smith. PJ Mottorano took fifth from Robertson on lap 49. Darren Bucklen took third from Deines on lap 54, and caution then flew for Deines and Archer tangling in turn 2. Hults spun to miss the spun cars, and Eggleston just barely avoided the incident. Deines regained his position, and Smith continued leading over Backman, Bucklen, Deines and Mottorano on the restart. On lap 60, Backman got around Smith for the lead. On lap 62, Bruce Yackey shot in to the top five for the first time in the race. By lap 70, Backman continued to lead with Smith, Bucklen, Yackey and Mottorano rounding out the top 5. On lap 72, Mike Hannah pulled off into the infield. Joe James Jr passed Mottorano for fifth on lap 73. Caution flew on lap 78 for debris in turn 3 to bunch up the field. On lap 86 Randy Gastineau stopped in turn 3 for a caution flag. Archer was back in the top 5 on lap 92 from the back of the field. On lap 97, Archer moved into fourth and then James passed Yackey for fifth on lap 98. On lap 99, Archer moved into third, but ran out of time as Backman held off Smith for the win over Archer, Bucklen, and James. Archer got penalized back to seventh moving Mottorano to fifth.

In the 10-lap Train race, Santa’s Express and Galloping Goose were on the front row. Galloping Goose led the first couple laps, then Steel Dragon took over. Termin8or ended their night hitting the front wall. Steel Dragon took the win over Half Fool and Plum M.T., Last Call, Santa’s Express, and Termin8or.

The RMMRA Midgets were first out to qualify and Gary Taylor set quick time with a 15.788. Kyle Ray was second quick and third quick was Keith Rauch. In the Sunoco Racing Fuels Grand American Modifieds, Joel Hansen pushed his Finish Line Promotions Cobalt to quick time with a 16.772 lap. Ed Vecchiarelli was second quick with Ed Vecchiarelli Jr third quick. The Sheds R Us Super Stocks saw the K & W Custom Embroidery and Silk Screening Nova of Ric Lothert set quick time with a 20.319. Second quick was AJ Grasso and third quick was Dennis Edwards. The last group to qualify was the Wright Group Events and Services Late Models and Scotty Backman in the Xtreme Signs and Graphics Pontiac set quick time with a 16.000 lap. Dan Savage was second quick over Ronnie Hults.

The first Super Stock B main hit the track first with Aaron Gailey and Russ Middaugh were on the front row. Middaugh jumped to the early lead with Emett Grazier, Gailey, Chris Naeb, and Bob Foster following. Caution fell on lap 4 when George Schenfeld Jr broke at the track exit. Naeb got around Gailey on lap 5 and Ric Lothert was in the top 5 by lap 8. Aaron Gailey was black flagged for spinning Chris Naeb on lap 8 for a caution. Middaugh continued to lead with Grazier, Lothert, Naeb and Dennis Edwards following. Lothert jumped to the outside and took the lead on lap 9. Lothert won over Middaugh, Grazier, Naeb, and Edwards.

The first Grand American Modified B main rolled out next with Ryan Moore and Adam Shrove on the front row. Moore led the first lap over Shrove, Jeff Purvis, Forest Smith and Ed Vecchiarelli Jr. Shrove took over the lead on lap 3 as Vecchiarelli Jr now moved into third. On lap 6, Vecchiarelli Jr moved into second behind Shrove as Moore, Joel Hansen and Smith rounded out the top 5. On lap 8, Hansen slammed the front wall and continued. Vecchiarelli Jr took the win over Shrove, Hansen, Smith, and Purvis.

The Late Model trophy dash rolled out with Darren Robertson and PJ Mottorano on the front row. Robertson took the early lead with Joe James Jr and Mottorano battling for second. James took over second with Mottorano back to third ahead of Rick Smith and Chris Archer on lap 4. Smith took third from Mottorano on lap 6, and then Archer knocked Mottorano back to fifth on lap 7. Robertson won over James, Smith, Archer and Mottorano.

The second Grand American Modified B main was next out on the track with Terry Tjarks and Derek Clementson on the front row. A restart was needed when Barney Visser spun in turn 3. Clementson took the early lead over Terry Tjarks, Dany Clementson, Ed Vecchiarelli and Justin Case. Mike Castagno, Jim Stivaletta and Justin Case all tangled in turn 1 on lap 8. Derek Clementson continued to lead over Tjarks, Vecchiarelli, Dany Clementson, and Castagno. Jim Stivaletta took over fifth on lap 8, and Vecchiarelli took the lead on the last lap with Derek Clementson second over Dany Clementson, Tjarks, and Stivaletta.

The Sheds R Us Super Stock second B main had Pat Addy and Connie Cox on the front row. Addy jumped out to the early lead with Mark Neff and Brent Cave following. Tim Weaver pitted his smoking mount on lap 2. Cave broke on lap 3, and Neff continued to challenge Addy. AJ Grasso got wicked loose after a tap from Mike Cox on lap 5 as Grasso was third over Mike Cox and Bruce Borchardt. M Cox took third on lap 9 as Jeff Philpott was not fifth. Addy took the win over M Cox, Neff, Grasso, and Philpott.

In the Late Model 15-lap B main, Darren Bucklen and Roger Avants were on the front row. Bucklen led Mike Hannah, Chris Atkinson, Avants, and Paul Deines early on. Deines took fourth from Avants on lap 3. Mike Gallegos took fifth from Avants on lap 6. On lap 10, Hannah took the lead on the outside from Bucklen, then Atkinson moved into second on lap 11 knocking Bucklen to third. Hannah took the win over Atkinson, Bucklen, Deines, and Gallegos.
