It was a record-breaking night at South Sound Speedway when the ASA NW Sprintcar Racing Association (NSRA) came to the 3/8ths mile oval.
Andy Alberding set the fastest lap ever recorded on the speedway in his NSRA sprint with a 11.912 second lap. That is well over 113 miles per hour.
Pat Bliss won the first of three heat races with Jeff Bird and Craig Deaver in second and third. Jeff Montgomery was victorious in the second heat followed by Jeremy Sabin and Todd Coleman. Brian Smith won the final heat race. JR Ray, the 2005 South Sound Speedway 360 Wingless Sprint Champion, was second and Andy Alberding was third. The main event had only a few minor cautions. One involved Jeff Montgomery and Russell Root getting together and spinning. The second came out when Ron Jay was stalled up on the front stretch wall after an altercation with Justin Mack. Monte Zema Jr. came out the winner after leading most of the race. JR Ray was second, Craig Deaver was third, Jeff Bird was fourth and Andy Alberding was fifth.
Phil Willis again captured the fast qualifier position for the Limited Late Model division. Devin Eierman and Marshall Hallett started on the front row of the main event but before the green could fly for an entire lap, Tina McMillan’s car had a major problem. McMillan had smoke and oil spewing from her car and was done for the night. After restarting another caution was thrown before a lap could be complete when Mike Carlson spun. Then a third caution came out before the green when Carlson and Dennis Shaffer got together with some help from Dave McCaslin. McCaslin was blacked for the incident and Carlson was done for the night. The green finally flew and two entire laps were gotten in before another caution was thrown, this time involving Kevin Carver who had an electrical problem. He left the track on the caution but returned five laps later but left immediately after that.
On the restart Dave Cline got ahead of Devin Eierman who had led the first two laps. Cline was out front with Eierman in second, Mark Jones in third, Phil Willis in fourth and Marshall Hallett in fifth. The next caution came on lap 19 when Mark Jones and Phil Willis got together, knocking them both out of the top five and sending Willis to the pits. The top two remained the same but Marshall Hallett was now third, John Mangini was fourth and Charlie West Jr. was fifth. It looked like Cline had it all wrapped up until lap 27 when he suddenly slowed and lost power with a broken rear end.
He was done for the night. Eierman now had the lead back with Hallett in second, Mangini in third, West in fourth and Pat Clark in fifth. The final caution of the race came on lap 35 when Charlie West and John Mangini got together. West got the black for the incident and both were sent to the back. Eierman, Hallett and Clark were now the top three with Bobby Moore in fourth and Mangini in fifth. That looked to be the finishing order until Bobby Moore went too hot into turn four and spun, losing his position.
Devin Eierman came out on top with Marshall Hallett finishing a strong second and Pat Clark in third. John Mangini was fourth and Charles Meadors was fifth. Dennis Shaffer, Charlie West Jr., Bobby Moore, Rich Hargreaves and Steve Woods were the rest of the top ten.
David Callendar won the B heat race for the FSCRA after taking over the lead on the last lap from Tony Schreiber who finished second. Cody Stewart was third. Kevin Koepke won the A heat race with Eric Kaas in second and Chris Cunningham in third. David Callendar and Richard Dionne started on the front row of the main event and Callendar took the early lead with Dionne in second, Kevin Koepke in third and Jerry Koepping in fourth. Koepke took the lead on lap nine and Matt Melby moved into third behind Callendar. Melby took over second on lap 12 but John Grosvenor moved up into second on lap 15 and brought Wayne Dillon with him into third. A caution came out on lap 20 when Bob Quarterman and Cody Stewart spun on the front stretch. When the lead cars came around, Matt Melby didn’t see the wreck and crashed right into them. All three cars were done for the night. Koepke held onto the lead until lap 23 when Grosvenor took over. John Grosvenor won the main event with Kevin Koepke in second and Wayne Dillon, who set fast time, in third. Chris Cunningham was fourth and David Callendar was fifth. Dave Powel, Eric Kaas, Richard Dionne and Cullen Jensen were sixth through tenth.
Dan Larson Sr. qualified fast for the Mini Cup Open division. Zach Blockhan led the first lap of the heat race until Tanner McCombs took over. Laps three brought out a caution when Dave Vanderpol spun and flipped his car over onto his top and slid about 100 feet and slammed into the turn four wall on his top. Vanderpol was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure but he assured the fans he was fine. McCombs won the heat race with Buddy Benefield in second and Dan Larson Sr. in third. Dave Torrey led the first two laps of the main event before Buddy Benefield took over. Then Tanner McCombs got out front on lap seven and never looked back. McCombs took his third win of the season in three races. Dan Larson Sr. was second after Buddy Benefield spun on lap 17 losing his position. Zach Blockhan finished in third, Dan Larson Jr. was fourth, Dave Torrey was fifth and Benefield was sixth.
Kayla Roberts qualified fastest for the Future Star division with a 17.704.
Jacob VanGesen led all eight laps of the heat race for the win over Aaron Stanley and Matt Benefield. Aaron Stanley led all the laps of the caution free main event for the win. Kayla Roberts was second, Matt Benefield third, Brayden McCombs fourth, Tyler Knittle fifth, Dustin Torrey sixth and Jacob VanGesen seventh.
