BACKMAN TAKES THE SUNDAY PORTION OF THE WRIGHT GROUP EVENTS AND TENTS 100 MEMORIAL DAY DASH FOR CASHCOLORADO NATIONAL SPEEDWAY

The Legend cars had 29 cars start their 25-lap main event with Chad Wilson and Randy Milan on the front row. Plummer led the first lap over Danny Medina, Chris Eggleston and Kyle Clegg. Greg Yongue took fifth on lap 3 and started closing it on Clegg. Randy Zimmerman spin in turn three on lap 4 for a caution. Medina took control of the lead on lap 5 with the top 5 cars all in a pack. Medina spun on lap 8 after contact Zimmerman. At the lap 10 mark, Plummer led Eggleston, Clegg, Yongue and Milan. Brian Zimmerman spun in turn two for a lap 12 caution bunching up the field. On lap 14, Mike Williams spun in turn four for a caution flag to bunch up the field once again. Yongue took over the third spot on lap 16 and started reeling in the leaders. Eggleston went to the front with a passed in lapped traffic on lap 19, but Plummer took the lead back on lap 22. Medina moved into fifth and caution flew on lap 23 when Milan and Jace Hansen tangled. Hansen was sent to the rear of the field and Milan was given his position back, but needed a push start and was sent back with Hansen. On the restart, it was Plummer, Eggleston, Yongue, Clegg, and Medina for the final few laps. Medina got by Clegg on lap 23 and Plummer held of Eggleston for the win ahead of Yongue, Medina, and Clegg. Chris Naeb and Dave Coblentz sat on the front row for the 25-lap Super Stock main that had 27 cars start. Naeb took the early lead over Mike Cox and Ric Lothert. Cox took command of the lead on lap 5 with Lothert moving into second. Sandy Thompson took over third on lap 6 with Naeb back to fourth ahead of Coblentz. Coblentz spun in turn 2 and continued on lap 12 and Dennis Edwards was now fifth. Cox and Lothert were putting on a great battle for the lead as Lothert was trying everything possible to take the lead. David Neff spun in turn 4 on lap 21 and rejoined the race a few laps later. Cox took his fifth win of the season with Lothert a strong second ahead of Thompson, Naeb and Edwards. Justin Case and Terry Tjarks were on the front row for the 30-lap Grand American Modified main which had 17 starters. A restart was needed when Bruce Robertson had issues with his right front. After several tries starting the race, the front row was sent to the rear putting Forest Smith and Randy Milan on the front row. Smith led Joel Hansen, Ronnie Stringfellow and Barney Visser after the first lap. Adam Shrove moved into fifth on lap 3 as Hansen took command on lap 4. Shrove took fourth from Milan on lap 6 as Hansen pulled away from the field. Peter Jurickovich broke and slowed down the track for a lap 11 caution. Hansen had a huge lead by lap 15 over Smith, Stringfellow, Shrove, and Visser. Nathan Gasser spun for a caution on lap 18. Hansen checked out and won over Smith, Stringfellow, Shrove and Visser. The Late Model main event had Mark Dixon and Brian Pacheco on the front row for the 50-lap main event which had 16 starters. Chris Archer led the first lap and continued his lead over Darren Bucklen, Darren Robertson, Scotty Backman and Rick Smith. Robertson and Backman moved by Bucklen on lap 13 to take over second and third. Backman got by Robertson in lapped traffic on lap 19 and started reeling in Archer. Backman got by Archer in lapped traffic on lap 26, and caution flew on lap 28 when Mike Hannah spun in turn two. On the restart Bucklen fell back and Smith moved up to fourth while Ronnie Hults took over fifth. Backman led the rest of the way and took the win over Archer, Robertson, Smith, and Hults. The Trains ran their 10-lap race last and the front row had Steel Dragon and Galloping Goose on the front row. Steel Dragon led the race early over Termin8or and Last Call. Last Call took second on lap 4 and started battling Steel Dragon for the lead. Last Call took the lead on lap 5 with Termin8or in second and Steel Dragon in third. Last Call took the win with Termin8or, Steel Dragon, Galloping Goose and Santa’s Express following. The afternoon started off with qualifications for the Legends and Chris Eggleston set quick time with a 19.120 lap. Danny Medina was second quick while Terry Plummer was third quick. In the Super Stocks, Ric Lothert set quick time with a lap of 20.417. Mark Neff was second quick and Mike Cox settled for third quick. In the Modifieds, Joel Hansen clocked in the fastest for the evening with a 17.143 lap. Ronnie Stringfellow and Jeff Purvis rounded out the top 3. In the Late Models, quick time went to Scotty Backman with a 16.180 lap. Ronnie Hults and Rick Smith were second and third quick. The first Legend Car B-main rolled out first for the two early B mains with John Baker and Bill Yeros on the front row. Baker led early and Yeros spun in turn 4 on lap 2 collecting Brittney Johnson and John Jolly for a caution. Johnson was towed off, as Baker led Greg O’Donnell, Greg Yongue, Meggan Healy, and Chris Eggleston. Yongue shot to the lead on lap 2 with Eggleston and Terry Plummer following him to the front as Baker slowed and pulled off. Eggleston and took over the lead on lap 5, and Plummer took second on lap 6 putting Yongue back to third ahead of O’Donnell and Healy. Plummer took the lead on lap 12, with Eggleston falling back to second. Bob Peck pulled off on lap 14 as Plummer won over Eggleston, Yongue, O’Donnell, and Healy. The early Super Stock B rolled on the track with Bob Foster and Aaron Gailey on the front row. Gailey led the first lap over Dennis Edwards and AJ Grasso. Mike Cox was fourth on lap 3 and Emmet Grazier was fifth. Mike Cox took over third on lap 6 and Ric Lothert passed Grazier for fifth on lap 7. Cox was second on and Grasso slowed on lap 9 as Edwards now led Cox, Lothert, Gailey and Grazier. Edwards held on for the win over Cox, Lothert, Gailey and Grazier. The evening trophy dash was for the Late Models and Chris Archer sat on the front row along with Chris Eggleston. Archer led the first lap over Eggleston and Darren Robertson. Robertson took second on lap 3 and Darren Bucklen moved into third with Eggleston falling to the back. Archer was able to hold off Robertson for the win and rounding out the top 5 were Bucklen, Mike Hannah, and Scotty Backman. The second Legend Car B-main rolled out with Mike Webber and Jace Hansen on the front row. A restart was needed after Kyle Clegg shot to the lead and spun in turn 2 on the first lap. Clegg had to restart at the rear of the field. Mike Webber led the first lap with Jace Hansen in second. Danny Medina shot to second on lap 3 and took the lead from Webber on lap 4. Medina now led Chiesa, Hansen, Webber and Clegg who was on a mission from the back. Caution flew on lap 8 when Chiesa spun in turn 2 and was clipped by Bert Chapman. Chapman lost a tire and was towed off. Medina now led Hansen, Clegg, Webber, and Justin Davis. Clegg moved into second on lap 8 and Davis took fourth from Webber on lap 12. Randy Milan got by Webber on the last lap, and Medina won over Clegg, Hansen, Davis, and Milan. The second Super Stock B-main had Darrell Smith and Chris Thompson on the front row. Caution flew before one lap was completed when Chris Vieth lost his front bumper in turn 2. Thompson led Smith on the first lap. On lap 1, Chris Vieth and Mario Garramone tangled in turn 1. Thompson led then on lap 3, Brent Cave lost a tire in turn 3 for a caution. Mark Neff took the lead on lap 6 and stared smoking on lap 8, but he led the rest of the way. Chris Thompson finished second ahead of Jeff Philpott, David Coblentz and Sandy Thompson. Jeff Hansen and Ryan Moore were on the front row for the first Modified B-main. Moore checked out and led over Nathan Gasser, Forest Smith, Barney Visser and Jeff Purvis. Moore won over Gasser, Smith, Joel Hansen, and Visser. Peter Jurickovich and Mike Castagno were on the front row for the second Modified B-main. On the second lap, Terry Tjarks and Peter Jurickovich tangled with both taking a wild ride. Castagno led on the restart over Randy Milan, Nick Martinez, Adam Shrove, and Jim Stivaletta. Martinez fell back on lap 4 and Milan now led Shrove, Ronnie Stringfellow, Stivaletta and Castagno. Milan won over Stringfellow, Shrove, Stivaletta, and Martinez. The last B-main was for the Late Models and had had Mark Dixon and Dan Savage on the front row. Savage led the first lap over Bear Lynch, Roger Avants, Joe James Jr, and Dixon. Savage held on for the win over Lynch, Avants, James Jr, and Dixon.
