ANDERSON, California -- This Saturday night, Shasta Raceway Park roars back into action as Hild Collision Center and Redding’s Rock 106x present the North State Challenge Series Super Late Models, in conjunction with the NASCAR Coors Light Late Models, the NASCAR Auto City Modifieds, and the Schmitt Equipment Sales Bombers on a night where fans will have the chance to participate in the annual Shopping Cart races for tickets to the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup event at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma!

Thus far this season, the North State Challenge Series season has been intense, with two races already in the books. There should have been three completed, however the first event of the year, scheduled to be right here at Shasta Raceway Park, was cancelled due to heavy rainfall. There is no rain in the forecast this time, however, and drivers are eager to take to the track. Currently, Mike Doss from Upper Lake leads the point standings by only 13 over Lakeport’s Derek Thorn. Crescent City driver Howard Ford is third, followed by Ukaih’s Eric Graham and Randy Houston, a local driver from Cottonwood. Redding’s Neil Gordon, who raced at SRP regularly last year in the NASCAR Coors Light Late Model division, has moved up and is running the full NSCS schedule this year. He will continue chasing the Rookie of the Year title this Saturday night, and is currently 18th in the standings overall. Two other local drivers will be making their first NSCS starts of the year this Saturday night: Steven Gannon of Redding, who won last year’s Win River 100 Super Late Model race (and who will also run in the Late Models) and current NASCAR Grand National West Series driver Kristi Schmitt, who is also from Redding. Around 25 drivers are entered for this event overall, including fan favorite Jr. Roddy from Gualala, Oregon, David Miller from Coquille, Brad Wasmund of Ashland, CJ Bauden from Nevada, and Victor Pfluger of Arizona.

In the NASCAR Coors Light Late Models, it is a rookie at the top of the standings, as Jason Browne holds an eight point lead at the top of the rundown. Jerry Nichols is currently second, followed by Bobby Hirschbock, Steven Gannon, and two-time defending champion Alan Pyszora. As if leading the points at SRP weren’t enough for Browne, he is also solidly ranked 11th in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division II standings. After a week off, these drivers are ready to have some fun and get back to business, all at the same time. That should make for an interesting race.

A familiar name is once again on top of the NASCAR Auto City Modified point standings. Guy Young, who won the championship last year, currently leads the standings by a solid 16 point margin over Kelly Peacock. Rookie Kevin Brink is third in the standings, followed by veteran Jack Epperson and Stan Gunderson. Jeremy Ammon is sixth in the standings, just two points out of the top five. Things are very competitive in this class, so look for some good side by side action as these drivers take to the track.

Cody Braund currently holds a strong lead in the Schmitt Equipment Sales Bomber point standings. He has a 33 point lead over second place Kyle Borden. David Braund has moved up into the third spot after a main event win in the last race, followed by Dave Lewallen and Randy File. There is a three way tie for sixth in the standings among David Parks, Rick Gibbs, and Brian King, which goes to show that anybody can win at any time this year in the Bombers. Don’t miss another exciting event this weekend!

This Saturday night, gates open at 4:30P.M., with qualifying at 5:30P.M., and racing to begin at 6:30P.M.
