Charlotte, North Carolina -- Andrew Myers got his first taste of NASCAR Nextel Cup Series competition this past week at Infineon Raceway during his test session for the up coming Blue Lizard Suncream 200. Myers was on the track with Nextel Cup stars Carl Edwards, Reed Sorenson, Clint Boyer and Boris Said as they tested for the Dodge/Save Mart 350.
Myers fasted laps were clocked at a pace of 1:19:87 which had him, unofficially, the fastest of the NASCAR Grand National Division, AutoZone West Series drivers and right in line with times of the Nextel Cup stars.
“It was neat running with some of the best in the business said the much impressed Myers. Watching Boris is awesome, he makes it look so smooth. I learned a lot and am looking forward to the race.”
“It was good for Andrew to run with these guys, said co-crew chief, Jamie Aube. Anytime you run as strong as Andrew did here, with some of the top Cup guys, it gets peoples attention and Andrew is at a point in his career where people are watching him to move up.”
“We had Andrew take the (Jim) Russell school a few weeks back and that really seemed to help him, said team manager, Phil Bonifield. Andrew was able to give us good feedback, we would make the changes and he would go faster. He really has become a better racer this year.”
Myers will drive the Toyota of Escondido/Red Line Oil #44 in the NASCAR Grand National Division, AutoZone West Series, Blue Lizard Suncream 200 June 24th at
Infineon Raceway. The event will be televised live in high definition on
HDNet. In addition, an enhanced replay will air on SPEED.![]()
