STEVEN GANNON LEADS SRP FAIR WINNERS

ANDERSON, California -- The 2006 Shasta District Fair ended on a fantastic note this weekend, as two nights of racing provided great entertainment for drivers and fans alike. On Saturday, Steven Gannon took home the victory in the NASCAR Coors Light Late Models, with Guy Young winning in the NASCAR Auto City Modified division, and Al Stelt coming home first in the NASCAR Mini-Stocks. On Sunday, David Braund took an exciting victory in the Schmitt Equipment Sales Bomber division, with Jake Vanpool winning in the Hornets, and Don Case winning a very exciting Demolition Derby.

In the NASCAR Coors Light Late Models, it was a night of sheer domination by Steven Gannon, He took home first in his heat race and trophy dash, as well as winning his main event. Gary Pyszora came out on top in the second heat race, with Garth Pedrotti scoring the victoy in the other trophy dash. In the main, it was smooth sailing for Gannon. He led for a good portion of the race, and would pull away in the end winning by over two seconds. Gary Pyszora was second, followed by Jason Browne, Alan Pyszora, and Rich Oller.

Winning was a bit more spread out in the NASCAR Auto City Modified division. Stan Gunderson took the victory in the first heat race, with Jack Epperson taking the victory in the second. Epperson also would take a trophy dash win, with Kevin Brink winning the other Dash. The main event unfolded as many have in the past, though. Guy Young worked his way to the front, got there, took the lead, and never looked back. He took the victory by about two and a half seconds over Mike Hubert III, Kelly Peacock, Kevin Brink, and Jack Epperson.

It was one of the more interesting events of the year for the NASCAR Mini-Stocks. As per usual, Al and Dale Stelt each took a heat race victory, with Dale also winning a trophy dash. The other dash would go to Larry Leach, who did double duty this weekend. The main event turned out quite interesting, however. Dale Stelt and Paul Sabourin, two of the usual front runners, suffered mechanical difficulties and fell back. That left the door wide open for Al Stelt, who would take the victory, but only by half a second over Greg Sabourin. Larry Leach finished third, followed by Scotty Murphy and Bob Garrett.

Sunday afternoon brought forth a new day and more exciting racing to cap off the weekend. In the Schmitt Equipment Sales Bomber division, the winnings went around, and the racing was intense as always. Dave Lewallen, Joe Brattoli, and Mike Hubert III took victories in the heat races, with Alan Marymee and David Braund scoring wins in the Trophy Dashes. Larry Leach and Gary Newman earned the two transfer spots from the B-Main event into the A-Main. Eighteen cars started the A-Main, and from the middle of the pack to the front, David Braund methodically made his way forward, eventually taking the win. Joe Brattoli finished second, followed by Cody Braund, Will Foster, and Randy File.

The Hornet division was crazy as always, especially since the cars ran the makeshift SRP road course for this event. Ed Milazzo won the first heat race, with Bill Swaney taking the second. The trophy dash turned out to be interesting though, as the man who was running in last place was declared the winner. The rules clearly stated that cars must follow the course, even if the course was disturbed. After one of the course tires was moved by another car unintentionally, the ONLY driver to follow the rules and still follow the course was James Campbell, meaning he was the winner. The main event was running pretty smoothly until the top few cars were involved in a collision. That handed the win to Jake Vanpool, with Bo Nicholson finishing second, Ed Milazzo third, Lane Amlin fourth, and Peter Smith III rounding out the top five.

The Demolition Derby was one of the best to take place at SRP, and in the end, Don Case won, outlasting Ken Smock and Kevin Luntey.
