DARREN ROBERTSON WINS CNS FEATURECOLORADO NATIONAL SPEEDWAY

Ted Gastineau and Stephen Webb started on the front row for the Figure 8 main event. The first attempt at the start was called off when John Johnson was spun before the green flag flew. Gastineau led the first lap with Justin McKeachie spinning on lap 2. Duran raced into the lead as Gastineau got spun on lap 4. Duran led Hults, Joe Matlock, Johnson and Jim Egli. Harry Bragg parked in the infield to end his race and Stephen Webb spun on lap 9. Joe Gastineau stopped right before the X on lap 13 and blocked traffic for a caution. McKeachie was fearless on the track and then was black flagged under the caution. Egli and Johnson swapped positions right before the caution. Dennis Stepanich Jr tagged John Johnson on the restart and both went spinning. Johnson continued and T Gastineau ran into the stopped Stepanich Jr for another caution. Matlock started pressuring Duran when Egli and Mike Steward tangled on lap 16 for a caution. Egli went into the backstretch wall and was towed off the track. Joe Martinez moved into fifth and lapped traffic bunched up the leaders and Duran went spinning for a lap 19 caution. Hults was sent to the rear for contact with Duran moving Matlock into second over Martinez, Johnson and Dennis Stepanich. Duran held on for the win with Matlock in second over Martinez, Stepanich and Johnson. Duran was disqualified in post race inspection moving Matlock up to the win and putting Dave Smith into the top 5. Brandon Lee and Chris Sheil were on the front row for the Midget main. Sheil led early over Bobby Harr, Keith Rauch, Tony Rossi and Gary Taylor. Darren Crocker started leaking oil for a lap 5 caution which resulted in a lengthy caution. Rauch started pressuring Sheil before Rauch took over on lap 8. Sheil fell to second over Rossi, Harr, and Taylor. Taylor had his high-groove working and took second on lap 13. Taylor took command on lap 16 and stretched out a lead on Rauch. Sheil was still holding onto third with Harr and Rossi rounding out the top 5. Kyle Ray shot into fourth by lap 22 and was third a lap later. Taylor took the win over Rauch, Ray, Rossi and Sheil. Lee slammed into the front wall coming to the checkered flag. Russ Middaugh and David Neff were on the front row for the Super Stock main event. Middaugh led the first lap over Chris Cox. Joel Sidell was up to third with Ric Lothert and Neff following. Sidell took second from Cox on lap 6 with Lothert moving into third. Joel Sidell slammed into the backstretch wall racing for the lead on lap 12 and Lothert took the lead on lap 14. Lothert now led Cox, Middaugh, Chris Vieth and Mark Neff from the back. M Neff was fourth on lap 17 and Mike Cox cracked the top 5 on lap 18. On lap 19, Dave Miles broke for a caution flag. M Neff and M Cox got by Middaugh on lap 20 and then both goy by Middaugh on lap 21. Edwards spun into the infield on lap 21. M Cox took second on lap 23 and Lothert won over M Cox, M Neff, C Cox and Darrell Smith. Mike Castagno and Nathan Gasser were on the front row for the Grand American Modified Main Event. Forest Smith led the first lap with Nathan Gasser in tow. Ed Vecchiarelli took over on lap 3 bringing Joel Hansen with him. By lap 10 Vecchiarelli led Hansen, Adam Shrove, Smith and Gasser. Justin Case spun into the infield on lap 11 and continued. Ed Vecchiarelli Jr cracked into the top 5 and was fourth on lap 23. Vecchiarelli took the win over Hansen, Shrove, Vecchiarelli Jr and Smith. Vecchiarelli was disqualified in post race tech moving Hansen up to the win and Jon Lincicome into the top 5. Roger Avants and Chris Atkinson were on the front row for the Late Model main event. Atkinson led early, until Joe James Jr took over. Scotty Backman took over the lead on lap 12 and took Darren Robertson with him. Robertson took over the lead on lap 15 with Backman falling to second over Rick Smith, James and Bruce Yackey. Robertson pulled away and took his first win at CNS in the Late Model division. Backman was second over Smith, James, and Yackey. The results are unofficial pending further review. Afternoon qualifying started with the Midgets and Gary Taylor set quick time with a 15.674. Second quick was Darren Crocker and Keith Rauch was third quick. In the Sheds R Us Super Stocks, Mark Neff set quick time with a 20.456. Ric Lothert was second quick and Mike Cox was third quick. Ed Vecchiarelli set quick time in the Grand American Modifieds with a 16.785 lap. Joel Hansen and Ed Vecchiarelli Jr were second and third quick. Chris Archer stopped the clock at 16.125 for quick time in the Late Models. Scotty Backman and Rick Smith were second and third quick. Joe Matlock was quick time in the Figure 8’s with a 28.232. Al Duran was second quick and Dennis Stepanich was third quick. Dennis Edwards and Chris Cox sat on the front row for the first Super Stock B main. Edwards jumped into the early lead over Perez, Cox, Chris Thompson and Mark Neff. Thompson shot to second on lap 5 with Perez falling back as Edwards now led Thompson, Neff, Russ Middaugh and Mike Cox. Thompson broke on lap 7 and Neff took the lead on lap 8. Neff held on for the win over M Cox, Edwards, Middaugh, and Joel Sidell. Terry Tjarks and Mike Castagno were on the front row for the first Modified B main. Ed Vecchiarelli shot like a cannon to the front and was up to fourth when Ed Vecchiarelli Jr and Cris Muhler tangled sending Muhler into the turn 1 wall for a caution. Vecchiarelli Jr was black-flagged for his part in the incident. Tjarks led Castagno, Justin Case, Vecchiarelli, and Forest Smith on the restart. Vecchiarelli took over second by lap 4 and took over the lead on lap 5. Caution flew on lap 7 with Terry Tjarks and Jon Lincicome spinning in turn 4 with both cars regaining their positions. On the restart Vecchiarelli led Tjarks, Castagno, Lincicome and Case. The race was then called due to rain with Vecchiarelli taking the win. The Figure 8’s were the trophy dash for the evening and John Johnson sat on the front for with Dave Smith. Johnson led the first lap and Jim Egli went spinning. Ronnie Hults took over the lead on lap 3 and Joe Matlock moved into second. Hults took the narrow win over Matlock from the back, Al Duran, Dennis Stepanich and Johnson. Ted Gastineau and Stephen Webb were on the front row for the Figure 8 B main. Dennis Stepanich Jr led early over Randy Grubb, Gastineau, and Phil Taylor. Shirley Thompson spun and Jerome Hohn Jr did a lap around Joe Starr in the infield. Justin McKeachie was leaking fuel and shooting through the X showing no fear. When the dust settled, Stepanich Jr won over Grubb, Gastineau, Taylor and Webb. The second Super Stock B main rolled out with AJ Grasso and Bruce Borchardt on the front row. Grasso led the first lap until Emett Grazier took over on lap 3 and Ric Lothert tagged the front wall. Grazier led Grasso, David Neff, Grasso, Lothert, and Jeff Philpott. JJ Raney was black flagged for leaking fuel. Grazier took the win over Lothert, Neff, Philpott, and a close battle between Chris Vieth and Grasso. Jeff Purvis and Jeff Hansen were on the front row for the second Grand American Modified B main. Purvis jumped to the early lead over JD Gresham, Adam Shrove and Nathan Gasser. On lap 5, Gasser and Gresham tangled in turn 4 and Gasser pitted. Joel Hansen took second on lap 6 and took over the lead on lap 7. Hansen took the win over Purvis, Shrove, Jim Stivaletta and Gresham. Robert Hanley and Darren Bucklen were on the front row for the first Late Model B main. Bucklen led the first lap over Roger Avants and Bear Lynch went spinning on lap 2. Avants fell back and Ronnie Hults moved into second over Rick Smith, Bruce Yackey and Avants. Smith took over second from Hults on lap 8 and Bucklen won over Smith, Yackey, Hults, and Avants. Randy Gastineau and Dan Savage were on the front row for the second Late Model B main. Darren Robertson spun in turn 4 for a caution and a restart. Savage led early on the restart and Joe James Jr took over with Scotty Backman following into second with Dan Savage in third over Mike Hannah and Darren Bucklen. That is the order they finished as James cruised to the win.
