RAMONA, California -- On Saturday evening, June 24th, Bobby McGowan, who is one of the top ten California ASA Speed Truck Challenge drivers picked up the telephone at his home to find out that he had just been selected in the top 20 Wild Card Division of the new racing reality show titled, "Racin' For A Livin'". The month of July will feature an internet vote for these 20 top drivers with the top 5 vote-getters going to the next level of competition.
The call came from veteran open-wheel racer Jerry Cope.
This grueling competition will see drivers compete with lap times, how each driver handles car set-up, and the stress of driving a NASCAR ride. One driver will be eliminated each week, but will remain on the show to race against the drivers that are still VanDenHul, who has created this exciting new show set to air on national television. McGowan competes for the top five and may go with 15 other drivers back east, where only twelve drivers will be hand-picked by a celebrity driver group such as Harry Gant, AJ Foyt, Ward Burton, and Derrick in competition. The winner of “Racin for a Livin” will compete in seven races at the Busch level in 2007.
“McGowan has proven that he is deserving of this opportunity,” said Jay Rutherford, ASA Speed Truck Challenge president. At only age 19, he has handled his #5 Speed Truck in the toughest of competition in the 2006 season and is currently 4th in Championship points. “As one of the smartest drivers in our series, McGowan has what it takes to make it all the way.”
