Mike David of Modesto, CA soldiered home to a 29th place finish, Saturday, in the NASCAR Autozone West Series Blue Lizard Suncream 200 at Infineon Raceway.
David�s Bennett Lane Winery Ford Fusion suffered heavy damage at the start of the race in an unfortunate crash.
Heading up the hill on the 1.99 mile road course into turn two, David slipped into the dirt and spun across the race track.
David, the series points leader, was hit hard by Colorado�s Scott Gaylord, causing heavy damage to David�s Randy Lynch-owned Ford.
�It was a hard time to have a bad day,� David said, referring to the race being the home race for Bennett Lane Winery. �I just got two tires on the dirt and it just happened.�
David was disappointed that he could not capitalize on a strong car in his first road course start.
�It was a great car but driver error blew a top-ten,� David said. �The crew did a great job getting me back out there. It was good that we got back out there and saved the points lead.�
David leads Peyton Sellers by five points heading the next race, Saturday�s Bi-Mart 150 at Douglas County Speedway in Roseberg, OR. David comes in with high hopes for the event.
�The team we have isn�t getting down about this at all,� David said. �We�re all motivated and we�re all winners. We�ve always run well in Oregon, we�ll just need good luck.�
