HICKORY, North Carolina – CJM Racing will look to build on the momentum of their first ever NASCAR NEXTEL Cup start when they roll into the Daytona International Speedway this weekend. Last weekend at the Infineon Raceway, David Gilliland qualified the No. 72 Dutch Quality Stone Dodge into the field. Veteran driver Kertus Davis will be behind the wheel this weekend for the Pepsi 400.
Davis will be attempting to qualify for his second race for team owners Bryan and Tony Mullet. The first was at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in May when he failed to make it into a NEXTEL Cup-filled lineup. The talented Davis is ready to get to the famed 2.5 mile Florida oval and rectify that last attempt.
The Pepsi 400 will be carried live on Fox and all MRN affiliates beginning at 7:30 pm.
Kertus Comments
The team is coming off of their first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup start. Has it given them more confidence?
“Absolutely, the guys are definitely walking around with a little pep in their step. The Mullet brothers are building a great team and last weekend showed that. Doug George (crew chief) and the guys have prepared a great car for this weekend and I am thankful for the opportunity to hold the wheel.”
Most of the work for restrictor plate racing is done before you get to the track and anything can happen once you get there. What are your goals/expectations for this weekend?
“We have a brand new car that Doug George has prepared from the ground up. We have a fresh Ernie Elliot motor that will give us good power. Once we get the Dutch Quality Stone Dodge in the show, and miss the Big One, we should bring home a solid top-20 finish.”
