KEVIN HARVICK’S #1 NASCAR SWS CAR IMPOUNDED

Midway through the Southwest Tour race at Altamont, Cody Pruitt lost control of his car down the back stretch. The car came to rest on top of the tire barrier at the entry to turn 3 after a violent impact.

Pruitt seemed to be feeling fine after the incident, but the car was impounded by NASCAR officials. No one would comment on the reason for the impound.

Update (anonymous source): This article is misleading. While it is true the NASCAR Southwest officials did impound the car there is a logical reason.

After a crash in any NASCAR division the car is inspected by the safety inspector. Pictures are taken to make sure what was supposed to fold up does, measurements are taken in the drivers compartment to see if the seat or anything else moved during the crash. The reason the car was impounded was the race was still going on and the official that would normally be doing this was still working the race, so had to wait until the race was over.

All the information that is collected goes back to Concord and is stored in as data base to see if any improvements need to be made.

Hope this helps!

Update 2 (RW User: drl93308):Kevin Harvick does not own the #1 Southwest Series team nor does he have any ties to the team other than Burney Lamar drove the #1 car in the past. Burney now drives for Kevin's #77 Bush Team. Les Denherder owns the team and Cody Pruitt drives for the HPS/Victory Circle team. Cody got loose out of turn #2 and scraped the outside wall and then it turned him into the inside wall at the start of turn #3. The car is junk but thankfully Cody is fine. See you in Stockton.####
