BLOOMFIELD, Iowa -- The USRA Casey's General Stores USRA Weekly Racing Series continued with night number thirteen at the always-exciting Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway with five classes in action. The young race fans had the chance to win prizes from the Junior Fan Club along with the always-fun candy dash with over 20, 000 pieces of candy sponsored by Wood Racing out of Sigourney.

In the first feature of the night, the Hougland's Repair Shop USRA Stock Cars battled it out for 18 laps of door-to-door action with three- and sometimes four-wide racing action. Mike Robinson of Moravia led the first lap and tried to hold off Matt Greiner of Washington, who made the pass on the bottom of turn 2 for the lead. The two drivers swapped the lead and soon it was four cars battling for the top spot with Ryan Cook and Colt Mather joining in on the battle for the front. Pat Rachels also tried his luck running the top side of the Speedway and made for a very interesting battle. With only three laps remaining caution flew for Tyler McClure spinning in turn 4. This made for a three-lap shootout with Jason Cook making the pass on Greiner going into turn 1 and leading the final three laps for the win. Greiner took the second spot with Mike Harward of Bloomfield in third and Mather taking fourth.

The second feature of the night was the Spilman Auto Parts USRA Modifieds with the fans getting to see an up-and-coming star Brandon Banks of Washington work his way from the eighth starting position to take the lead from Dennis Elliott of Mt. Ayr, who lead the first six laps of the 20-lap feature. Banks worked the bottom side of the racing surface to advance to his #22 machine to the front with Tony Fraise of Donnellson following right behind after starting seventh. The two drivers swapped the lead around the fast 3/8-mile clay oval and brought the crowd to their feet several times with Fraise trying everything to put pressure on the young driver, but Banks never made a mistake and held off Fraise for the win. This was Banks- first win at the Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway and third of his career. Fraise took a close second with another Washington driver, Steve Stewart, taking third. Bloomfield's Jerry Pilcher raced his way from 12th to a fourth-place finish.

In the Kollision Korner Hornets feature, Larry Hopkins of Ottumwa and Gene Irwin of Bloomfield led the field to the green for 10 laps of action. The two drivers battled for the lead but David Probasco of Moulton took the lead on lap 4. Probasco's new car was fast, but the red flag flew when Curtis Barnes of Greentop, Mo. , got upside down in turn 1 and collected the #12 machine driven by Matt Moore of Ottumwa. This set up a three-lap race to the checkers with Dale Porter making the pass on lap 8 and Ryan Yahnke of Bloomfield bringing a new car to battle for the lead. Nonetheless, Porter held off Yahnke for the win while Tom Irwin took third after starting seventh. Probasco slipped back to fourth.

The third appearance of the Keith's Foods Late Models at the Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway saw Tommy Elston of Keokuk taking the lead in his #45 machine until mechanical problems on lap 15 ended his run to the checkers. This turned the lead over to first-time visitor Paul Glendenning of Mt. Ayr who held off Chris Smyser of Lancaster, Mo. , for the win. Gordy Grubb of Oskaloosa finished third and Chris Fontana of Pella was fourth.

The event of the night was the Kirkland Auto USRA Hobby Stock feature going 15 laps with Jim Sulser of Centerville and Ray Lasser Jr. of Ottumwa leading the field to the green. Lasser took the lead on lap 1, but spun his machine in turn 2 on the second lap. Lasser was lucky enough to have everyone miss his machine setting in the middle of the track. Sulser, along with Jim Walker of Mystic, battled for the lead before Walker gained the top spot. The #42 machine of Ben Jones worked the top side of the Speedway and took the lead coming off of turn 4. Nathan Wood of Sigourney raced his #52 machine from 11th to second and tried to close the gap between himself and Jones. The caution flag flew for Lance Meyer spinning in turn 4 and crashing into the billboards. This set up a green-white-checkered shootout with Jones holding off Wood for his fifth win of 2006 at the Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway. Wood took a close second with Walker in third and Danny Thrasher of Agency and 12th-starting Cory Brown of Ottumwa taking fourth and fifth, respectively.

Two big nights of racing action are on tap at the Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway on Thursday and Friday, July 13-14, for the annual Davis County Fair. On Thursday, DC Diesel presents the dream date for open-wheeled sprint car fans. The winged warriors of the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders make their only appearance of the 2006 season, while the familiar Mid America 305 Winged Sprints join in the fun for two complete programs in one night. On Friday, the USRA Casey’s General Stores Weekly Racing Series takes to the track featuring five fast & furious classes, including Spilman Auto Parts USRA Modifieds, Hougland's Repair Shop USRA Stock Cars, Kirkland Auto USRA Hobby Stocks and Kollision Korner Hornets. Both nights, gates open at 5 p. m. with racing at 7:30.
