ANDERSON, California -- NASCAR action takes a break this Saturday night, as Shasta Raceway Park proudly presents the fastest cars ever to lap the track- the WSSRL Supermodifieds. Also on tap for an exciting weekend of racing are the BCRA Vintage Midgets, I-4 Pro Modifieds, Legends, Schmitt Equipment Sales Bombers, and Hornets.

Last year, the WSSRL Supermodifieds put on an amazing and exciting show at SRP, and this year should be no different. For those that may be unfamiliar, the supermodifieds are high-powered, alcohol-burning, big block, winged, open wheel cars that can accelerate from 20mph to 100mph in less than three seconds! Currently, Troy Regier of Dinuba, CA holds the points lead in the series, with a 75 point lead over AJ Russell. Creswell, Oregon’s Jeff Russell is a close third, only one point out of second. Eric Silsby of Reno, Nevada is fourth, followed by Clovis, California’s Mike Baisch, who rounds out the top five. Also appearing will be local driver Rob Carlotto of Burney and one of the fast guys from last year, Martin McKeefry of Milpitas. A full field of cars is expected in this division, with drivers from California, Idaho, Nevada, and Oregon! Don’t miss the only appearance of the season for this division, this Saturday night! The BCRA Vintage cars will give one and all a true vision into the history of the sport of auto racing. Drivers will sport cars from the 40's, 50's, and 60's, an era in which there was little in the way of safety features. For example, leather helmets were used, and there were no roll cages. There were also no seatbelts, since at the time, it was thought that being thrown out of the car was safer than being in it during a crash. These drivers will run two exhibition races that will give fans old and young a look at the sport decades ago.

Visiting SRP for the first time this year, the I-4 Pro Modifieds are similar to our very own Auto City Modifieds, except for the fact they run with four cylinders. Upwards of 15 cars are expected in this series, which usually runs out of Eureka, Ukiah, and Lakeport. It’s another series making its season debut, so don’t miss it!

Three regular series will be in action as well this weekend. In the Legend division, Micah Parmer continues to lead the standings after another impressive performance at the last event. He currently has a 25 point lead over Howard Hammers, with Derek Copeland in third, just two points behind Hammers. It’s only two more points back to fourth place Zachery Kavert, with Mackena Bell rounding out the top five. This series has been exciting to watch all year long, and should bring great racing again this Saturday night!

In the Schmitt Equipment Sales Bombers, Cody Braund currently has a 38 point lead over older brother David Braund in what has been an exciting battle all year long. Randy File holds down the third spot, followed by Brian Smith and Dave Lewallen. Competition in this series has been exciting all year long, so look for more this Saturday night! Last, but certainly not least, the ever popular Hornet division will make another appearance. No points to worry about in this division, just racing for a win and doing whatever it long as it’s within the rules. This Saturday night, gates open at 4:30P.M., with racing beginning at 6:00 P.M.
