BORNEMAN BAGS MONROE WIN

MONROE, Washington -- Johnny Borneman scored a sentimental win in the NAPA 250 on Saturday at Evergreen Speedway – the site where his father registered his only career win in the NASCAR Grand National Division, AutoZone West Series 28 years ago.

After starting 11th and running mid-pack through the first half of the race, the second generation driver from Ramona, Calif., charged to the high side of turn two to seize the lead and end what had been a dominant run by Eric Holmes.

Borneman streaked away from the field to quickly build a sizeable lead. Although that lead was erased by the fifth and final caution of the event on lap 183, Borneman had no trouble in pulling away after the restart to win by more than a 14-second margin. The win marked his first victory of the season and his third career series win.

Two-time and defending series champion Mike Duncan finished second – followed by Steve Portenga, Jeff Jefferson and series rookie Peyton Sellers. Holmes faded to finish ninth, one lap down.

The outcome left Holmes and Mike David even in the championship standings, with 1,189 points each.
