Madera, California - This Saturday, August 5th, Madera Speedway will host the “Madera Ford-Mercury Al Pombo Classic” featuring the legendary ASA Western States Supermodified Racing League 410 Supermodifieds in a 75 lap feature. The evening will honor the Legendary Al Pombo who is the most domineering San Joaquin valley driver who will be in attendance as the events Grand Marshal.
Pombo was track champion of several tracks, including Kearney Bowl, the paved San Jose Speedway, and Clovis Speedway. He also received multiple California State championships and his battles with Marshall Sargent are legendary. He generally raced over 100 times a year and his total wins surpassed records with top cars including his memorable royal blue car with the white circle 3. What memories the “Fastest 1/3 mile in the West” will be honoring on Satirday.
Among the WSSRL 410 Supermodifieds scorecard will be Troy Regier, who made his Madera Speedway racing debut in October 1991 when he finished third in a Limited Modified. Challenging Troy will be Clovis’s young gun, A. J. Russell, Jeff Russell, Mike Baisch, Eric Silsby and the Red Hot Rookie, Martin McKeefery.
The night’s scorecard will also feature the always exciting Late Models, the 360 Supers featuring David Gassett’s “Race for Chase” campaign. The youngest Swanson will return to compete in the Modified Super Toyota’s and the always entertaining Lucas Motorsports Modifieds with drive your need for speed.
Join us at the speedway for the “Madera Ford-Murcury Al Pombo Classic” and feel the cool breeze of the ASA WSSRL Supers. The Speedway grandstands will open at 3:00 PM with Qualifying, an autograph session is set for 5:15 PM and green flag racing begins at 6:00 PM.
