COLORADO NATIONAL SPEEDWAY RACE RESULTS - JULY 29TH, 2006

Driving the Tri County Parts and Equipment special, Cris Muhler won the Coors Light Racing 100-lap main event in the Wright Group Event Services Late Model Division. The Coors Light Racing Summer Shootout also saw Ed Vecchiarelli win in the SUNOCO Grand American Modifieds and Harry Bragg claimed the Figure 8 feature. The Super Stock main was won by Chris Vieth as he claimed his first win of the season. In the last race of the night, Don Callender took the Sheds R Us School Bus race.

John Johnson and Randy Grubb were on the front row for the Figure 8 Main Event. Mike Wolfe Sr spun on the first lap and Johnson led over Grubb and Phil Taylor. By lap 5, Al Duran was fourth over Harry Bragg. Dennis Stepanich and Harry Livermore Jr spun on lap 6 and both continued. Duran, Bragg and Dennis Stepanich Jr were third through fifth on lap 9 as Johnson opened up a big lead. On lap 10, Bragg moved into third and Stepanich Jr spun. On lap 11, Tammy Totos hit the wall for a caution flag. Johnson didn’t want to see the caution flag as that erased his huge lead over Grubb, Bragg, Duran and Joe Matlock. Matlock got by Duran and Grubb on lap 13 as Johnson continued to lead over Bragg, Matlock, Grubb and Duran. Bragg took over the lead on lap 16 with Matlock moving into second over Johnson, Ronnie Hults and Grubb. Dave Smith took fifth from Grubb on lap 18 and Bragg won over Matlock, Johnson, Hults and Smith. Hults was given a 4 position penalty knocking him out of the top 5 and Joe Martinez took fifth.

Adam Shrove jumped out to the early lead over J.D. Gresham and Ed Vecchiarelli. Terry Tjarks launched over the top of Nathan Gasser and Ed Vecchiarelli Jr for a lap 4 caution. By lap 10, Shrove led Vecchiarelli, Joel Hansen, Forest Smith and Gresham. On lap 15, Vecchiarelli and Hansen got by Shrove knocking him back to third. By lap 30, Jon Lincicome took over fifth and Smith took third. Vecchiarelli won over Hansen, Smith, Shrove and Lincicome.

DJ Neff and George Gallegos were on the front row for the Super Stock main event. Mark Neff stole his dad’s car and tagged the back of the main event. Gallegos led the first lap over D Neff. D Neff took over on lap 3 with Gallegos falling into second over Dennis Edwards. Gallegos broke on lap 6 and Pat Addy spun for a caution. A.J. Grasso was now third but Kurt Riddell took the spot a lap later, then moved into second. D Neff continued to lead over Riddell, Edwards, Grasso and Chris Vieth. Vieth got by Grasso and Edwards and moved into third. In his first race back since he went on his lid a few months ago, Riddell took over on lap 36 and D Neff spun on the last lap. Riddell won over Vieth with Edwards, Mike Cox and Grasso rounding out the top 5. Riddell was disqualified in post race inspection handing the win to Vieth.

In the 100-lap Late Model Main, Jim Sikes Jr and Nick Rozack held the front row and Sikes took the early lead until Cris Muhler took over on lap 2. Mike Hannah spun on lap 5 and collected Jeff Larsen Sr and Trevor Morrical to create a caution. On lap 10, Trent Phillips spun for a caution and Sikes was sent off for dragging body parts. Muhler led over Bruce Yackey, Scott Wilson, Dan Savage and Dave Finley. Scotty Backman was in fourth by lap 15 with Savage back to fifth. By lap 40, Muhler still led over Yackey, Backman, Darren Robertson and Joe James Jr. On lap 49, caution flew for Hannah and P.J. Mottorano tangling in turn 2. On the restart, Muhler led Yackey, Backman, Robertson, and James. Rozack’s great run ended when he spun in turn 4 on lap 85 for a caution. James fell back and Rick Smith took over fifth and Backman got by Yackey on the last lap for second. Muhler won over Backman, Yackey, Robertson and Smith.

The School Bus Race ended the evening and Jerry Sutherland was on the front row with Troy Witthar. Don Callender was used to straighten John Johnson on lap 2 as Witthar and Sutherland battled for the lead. Sutherland took the lead, then Callender split Witthar. Johnson got Callender sideways through the X and a bumper fell off for a caution. Johnson pulled off and Sutherland led on the restart over Witthar, Callender, and Ryan Spencer. Callender took second from Witthar on lap 7 and Callender sent Sutherland sideways on the last lap. The busses were 3 wide going through the X and Callender won over Sutherland, Witthar, Spencer and Johnson.

In early afternoon qualifying, Joe Matlock set quick time in the Figure 8 division with a 28.552 lap. Harry Bragg was second quick and Dave Smith third quick. In the Grand American Modifieds, Ed Vecchiarelli set quick time with a 17.029. Joel Hansen was second quick and Nathan Gasser was third quick. In the Super Stock, Mark Neff set quick time with a lap of 20.627. Chris Vieth was second quick over A.J. Grasso.

Two early B-Mains kicked off the action and one was for the Grand American Modifieds. Terry Tjarks and J.D. Gresham were on the front row for the event. Gresham took the early lead over Adam Shrove. Shrove took over the top spot on lap 4 over Gresham, Ed Vecchiarelli, Forest Smith and Nathan Gasser. Smith tried to get around Vecchiarelli but couldn’t get by. Shrove won over Gresham, Vecchiarelli, Smith and Gasser.

DJ Neff and Bob Foster were on the front row for the early Super Stock B- Main. Neff took the early lead over Dennis Edwards and A.J. Grasso. Mark Neff blew up in turn 3 on lap 3 for a lengthy cleanup. D.J. Neff led over Grasso, Bob Foster, Dennis Edwards, and Kurt Riddell. Edwards took third on lap 4 and Riddell broke. D.J. Neff now led Grasso, Edwards, Foster and Sidell. Neff held on for the win over Grasso, Edwards, Foster and Sidell.

Dave Finley and Ronnie Hults were on the front row for the Late Model trophy dash. On the first lap, Mike Hannah and Scotty Backman spun in turn 2 for a restart and Hannah was sent to the rear. Finley led the first lap over Bruce Yackey and Hults. Backman was third on lap 6 and Rick Smith moved into fourth. In a great race for the win Finley won over Yackey, Backman, Smith and Hults.

In the first Figure 8 B-Main Bobby Duran and Mike Wolfe Sr were on the front row. John Johnson led the first lap over Ronnie Hults and Joe Matlock. Matlock was second on lap 3 and Hults fell to third over Dennis Stepanich and Dave Smith. Matlock took the lead on lap 7 and held on for the win over Johnson, Hults, Stepanich and Smith.

Tammy Totos and Mike Wolfe Jr were on the front row for the second Figure 8 B-Main. Dennis Stepanich Jr led the first lap over Mike Wolfe Jr. Wolfe’s car had a tough time turning and went through the infield. Al Duran was now second over Harry Bragg, Joe Martinez and Randy Grubb. Stepanich won over Duran, Bragg, Martinez and Grubb.

The second Grand American Modified B-Main had George Wetzel and Mike Castagno on the front row. Wetzel elected to move to the rear putting Jon Lincicome on the pole. Lincicome led the first lap with Ronnie Stringfellow Jr in second. Joel Hansen was third on lap 4 over Barney Visser and Ed Vecchiarelli Jr. Wetzel pulled off on lap 6 and Hansen was second on lap 7. Hansen took over and won over Lincicome, Stringfellow, Vecchiarelli and Visser.

Darrell Smith and George Gallegos were on the front row for the second Super Stock B-Main. Smith jumped out to the early lead over Emett Grazier and Gallegos. Grazier took the lead on lap 3 and caution flew on lap 4 for debris in turn 1. Grazier led on the restart over Smith, Gallegos, Mike Cox and Chris Thompson. Gallegos moved into second on the last lap and Grazier won over Gallegos, Smith, Cox and Thompson.

Jim Sikes Jr and Mark Dixon were on the front row for the first Late Model B-Main. Sikes jumped out to the early lead over Darren Crocker and Crocker broke on lap 3 and pulled to the infield. Sikes continued to lead over Cris Muhler, Scott Wilson Bear Lynch and Roger Avants. Sikes took the win over Muhler by a nose, Wilson took third over Lynch and Avants.

Nick Rozack and Jeff Larsen Sr were on the front row for the second Late Model B-Main. Rozack led early over Larsen and Dan Savage. Savage took second on lap 4 knocking Larsen to third over Darren Bucklen and Joe James Jr. James took fourth on lap 7 when Bucklen got real loose. Rozack won over Savage, James, Larsen and Bucklen.
