RICHARDS CLAIMS 2006 IDAHO 200

POST FALLS, Idaho -- After six starts in the Idaho 200, Newman Lake, Washington driver Kevin Richards finally scored a win at the Inland Northwest event claiming the 2006 NAPA Auto Parts Idaho 200 at Stateline Speedway Sunday afternoon on a slick, one groove track.

Richards took the lead from Jack Morse in the second 100-lap segment to pick up his first Idaho 200 trophy, 2.29 seconds over Ephrata’s Christian Roeder and Jack Morse. Andy Brown and two-time race winner John Gamble rounded out top five.

Slick track conditions combined with drivers struggling to find the right setup for the races tires made passing difficult. Dan Garber set fast time and led a majority of the first segment before an on track incident with Oregon’s Brandon Riehl and Montana’s Bodie Morton dashed his hopes of a strong finish.

Riehl was black flagged for the incident. Garber pitted and fell laps behind. Morton retired from the race.

Canada’s Darrel Midgley was scored as the race leader at the half waypoint but retired during the break with motor problems, his second motor of the weekend. Tom Sweatman, the 2000 race winner, was black flagged after officials spotted a ratchet taped inside Sweatman’s car.

Tacoma’s Jason Majors won his second Bill Sauls Memorial race for the Northwest Pro 4 Trucks. Evergreen Speedway driver Nat Barber won the Outlaw Compact 30-lap main.

The wild, wacky, unpredictable action of Wednesday Night Fever continues Wednesday at 6pm with Fever 4’s, Road Runners, plus the cars and superstars of the Bump to Pass division. Adults are just $5.75; kids under the age of nine accompanied by adults are free. Saturday the Northwest Outlaw Street Stocks return.
