PURSLEY SCORES BUD POLE FOR SOUTHWEST SERIES EVENT AT IRWINDALE

Greg Pursley from Canyon Country, Calif. returned to NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series action in grand fashion Saturday at Irwindale (CA) Speedway claiming his eighth career Bud Pole Award. Pursley, the 2004 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series national champion is making his first Southwest Series start of the 2006 season and bested 28 other drivers in qualifying for the Stock Building Supply "100" set to take the green flag at 8:45 p.m. PDT this evening.

Pursley toured the ultra-fast half-mile paved oval located outside Los Angeles, Calif. in 18.035 seconds/99.806 mph. Sunoco Rookie-of-the-Year leader David Mayhew clocked in with the second best time followed by local hotshoe Rip Michels. Thomas Martin and two-time Southwest Series champion Jim Pettit II rounded out the top five after qualifying.

Eric Holmes, Eric Richardson, Van Knill, Eddy McKean, and M.K. Kanke rounded out the top ten in qualifying. Pursley drew a 6-car invert putting Eric Holmes on the pole for the 100-lap event. The Stock Building Supply "100" is the final regular season appearance by the Southwest Series before the top drivers in the country descend on Irwindale Speedway in October for the fourth NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown.
