VECCHIARELLI WINS THE SUNOCO SATURDAY NIGHT SIZZLEREd Vecchiarelli powered his Diesel Service and Supply Dodge to the win in Saturday Nights SUNOCO Grand American Modified main event at Colorado National Speedway. John Baker claimed the Dunlap's Trailers Sportsman main event, and DJ Neff claimed the Sheds R Us Super Stock main event. Terry Plummer claimed the RMLRA Legend Car main event and Gary Taylor won the RMMRA Midget main.

The Midget main event had Billy Mentgen and Kyle Rayburn on the front row. Rayburn led the first lap over Rossi and Greg Schaefer. Gary Taylor was fourth on lap 4 and moving up quickly. Taylor was up to second on lap 7 and reeled in Rayburn. Taylor had the lead on lap 10 and pulled away from Rayburn. Russ Harper was up to fifth on lap 12, then fell to sixth. Taylor won over Rayburn, Harper, Brandon Lee and Rossi.

Bob Peck and John Chiesa were on the front row for the Legend car main. It didn’t take long for Plummer to fin the front with Chris Eggleston in tow. 14-year-old rookie Jace Hansen was third by lap 6. John Baker took third on lap 17 knocking Hansen to fourth ahead of Chiesa. A lap 21 caution flew for Luke Sweckard spinning in turn 4 as Plummer now led Eggleston, Baker, Hansen and Kyle Clegg from the back. On the last lap a back-stretch tangle occurred between Clegg, Hansen, Phil Peconi and Tim Hindman. Plummer held on for the win over Eggleston, Baker, Darrell Stewart, and Scott Miller.

Ed Vecchiarelli Jr led the Grand American Modified main early on over Ed Vecchiarelli, Ronnie Stringfellow, Joel Hansen and Jeff Purvis. Caution for a drive-shaft on the track from the Justin Case machine flew on lap 9. Purvis pulled off on the caution putting Adam Shrove into fifth. Hansen was third on lap 11 and Vecchiarelli took the lead from his son on lap 12 and Hansen moved into second. Caution flew on lap 14 for JD Gresham stopped in turn 1. Caution again flew for Stringfellow stopped on the track, and then Vecchiarelli Jr broke. Vecchiarelli continued to lead over Hansen, Shrove, Mike Castagno and Nathan Gasser. Vecchiarelli won over Hansen, Shrove, Castagno and Gasser.

Jeff Manchester and Bob Foster were on the front row for the Super Stock main event. Manchester led lap 1 as cars were 4 wide behind him. DJ Neff took over the lead on lap 3 with Ted Droz in third. Caution flew on lap 5 when Mario Garramone spun in turn 3 and the field barely missed him. Neff continued to lead and caution again flew on lap 6 for Mike Dailey spinning with a flat tire and Joel Sidell spun and was hit by Randy Scoles. Neff led on the restart over Grazier, Manchester, Droz and Bruce Borchardt. Caution flew on lap 7 when Droz was tagged and spun in turn 1. Neff continued his lead over Grazier, Kurt Riddell, Borchardt and Jeff Philpott. Garramone spun for a lap 23 caution to bunch up the field. Neff held on the final laps and took the win over Riddell, Grazier, Borchardt and Philpott.

Gerry Borquez and JimBob Rogers were on the front row for the Sportsman main event. Dave Brown pulled off on the first lap and Rogers led early over Lee Kemmit. By lap 7, Kemmit was the leader over John Baker, Rogers, Craig Holmes and Tommy Roe. Baker took the lead on lap 12 and Kemmit stayed stuck on Baker’s back bumper. Caution flew on lap 25 when Adam Gastineau spun in turn 2 for a caution. Another caution flew before a lap was scored for Alan Phelps, Adam Gastineau and Dennis Pobanz tangling. Kemmit and Baker battled for the lead for several laps, and Baker beat Kemmit by a nose for the win as they split a lapped car, Kemmit was second over Rogers, Holmes, and Davin Fisbeck.

In early afternoon qualifying for the Midgets, Gary Taylor set quick time with a 15.857. Russ Harper was second quick and Kyle Ray was third quick. In the Legend Car time trials Terry Plummer set quick time with a 19.010. Kyle Clegg was second quick over Chris Eggleston. In the Modifieds, Ed Vecchiarelli was quick time with a 16.863. Joel Hansen was second quick and third quick Ed Vecchiarelli Jr. In the Super Stocks Kurt Riddell set quick time with a 20.569, but Ridell’s time was dis-allowed in tech inspection so DJ Neff set quick time with a 20.636 over Cox and Emett Grazier. In the Sportsman division Davin Fisbeck was quick time with a 17.981 with Andy Lewis second quick over John Baker.

Rick Rusk and Bob Peck were on the pole for the first Legend B-Main. Jace Hansen took the early lead until Chris Eggleston zoomed by. On lap 5, Terry Plummer took over with Eggleston in second over Hansen. Plummer won over Eggleston, Hansen, John Baker and Rusk.

In the first Super Stock B-Main Randy Scoles and Dave Miles were on the front row. Dennis Edwards led Scoles and Mario Garramone on the first lap and Garramone took second on lap 2. Dave Miles was third on lap 3 with Mark Neff moving into fourth and Emett Grazier fifth. Grazier took fourth from Neff on lap 6 and was third on lap 7. Caution flew when Rocky Detiene broke on lap 9 and put fluid down on the track. Mark Neff pulled off under the caution and Edwards now led Garramone, Grazier, Miles and Chris Naeb. On the restart, Edwards continued to lead and another caution flew when both Scoles and Garramone spun. Edwards won over Grazier, Naeb, Tim Weaver and Mike Dailey.

Dennis Pobanz was on the pole for the Sportsman Trophy Dash with Craig Holmes to his outside. Holmes jumped to the early lead over Tommy Roe and Lee Kemmit. Kemmit took second on lap 4 and caution flew on lap 6 for Dennis Pobanz and Scott Estes spinning in turn 2. Estes was leaking fluid which resulted in a lengthy cleanup. Kemmit was all over Holmes and Holmes took the narrow win over Kemmit, Roe, John Baker and Davin Fisbeck.

Bill Yeros and Brent Miller were on the front row for the second Legend B-Main. Yeros led early over Greg O’Donnell and Kyle Clegg. Clegg shot to second on lap 6 and Dennis Barkell spun and regained the race. Miller tagged the wall on lap 6 and pulled into the infield. Clegg now led over O’Donnell, and John Chiesa. Clegg took the win over O’Donnell, Chiesa, Bill Yeros and Scott Miller.

In the first Modified B-Main, Ed Vecchiarelli Jr won over his dad Ed Vecchiarelli, Ronnie Stringfellow Jr, Justin Case and Derek Clementson. In the second B, Jeff Hansen led until Joel Hansen got by on lap 9. Joel won over Jeff, JD Gresham, Adam Shrove and Jeff Purvis.

Darrell Smith took the second Super Stock B-Main over Jeff Manchester, DJ Neff, Ted Droz and Chris Vieth. In the third B-Main, Joel Sidell led until he was passed by Mike Cox. Cox won over Sidell, Bruce Borchardt, Bob Foster and Dave Neff.

In the first Sportsman B-Main, Stan Griffin had the early lead and opened up a huge lead as he won over Steve Green, Gerald Borquez, Adam Gastineau and Rick Hunt. Jeff Webb took the second B-Main over Jim Lahey, JimBob Rogers, Eric Blackard and Alan Carter.
