KELLY MANN WINS SUPER STOCK MAIN ON LONG NIGHT AT SOUTH SOUND SPEEDWAYSOUTH SOUND SPEEDWAY

Out of the 28 cars that qualified with the Super Stocks, Tom Sweatman was the fast qualifier. Eighteen cars were locked into the A main event with ten starting the B main and two moving up. In the 15 lap B main event there were four cautions. The first involved KC Valentine, Fred Walker and Ken Sleveland. Rod Schultz Sr. was running out front when the green flag flew. Tommy Rasmussen was in second and Bobby Wheeler Jr. was in third. The second caution was thrown on lap three when newcomer Chris Ormsby spun and went off. The third caution came on lap six when Chris Schlaht spun and was sent off the track. The final caution came on lap seven for debris. Rod Schultz Sr. won the B main event with Tommy Rasmussen in second. The pair moved into the A main event along with Bobby Wheeler Jr. who finished third and was a promoters choice. Not moving up into the A main were Fred Walker, Curtis Zelmer, KC Valentine, Ken Sleveland, Chris Schlaht, Chris Ormsby and Tommy Elstoen. The 21 car field had a hard time starting the main event. Before a lap could be completed there was a huge pile-up. About 13 cars were involved. Dan Obrist, Jerry Clark, Shane Sawin and Tommy Rasmussen all went off the track. Dan Obrist was the only one that was unable to make it back out before the green flew, he was done for the night. Bob Presley took the lead on lap one after starting on the pole. Mitch Franklin was in second with Mike Obrist in third. The first caution came on lap four for debris. Right away again on lap seven was another caution. This one was for Jared Vorse spinning. AJ Fuggit went off with a motor problem on the caution and was done for the night. The third caution didn’t come out until lap 33 when Loran Payne spun in turn two. When the leaders came around Mitch Franklin, who was running second, hit Payne. Franklin was done for the night. During the caution fluid was being put down on the track. It was found to be coming out of Eric Tibbitts car and he was sent off and was done for the night. Bob Presley was still out front. Kelly Mann was in second with Mike Obrist in third, Dan Rhodes in fourth and Jim Warn in fifth. The fourth caution of the race came on lap 46 when Jerry Clark and Loren Sutphin got together. On the restart Dan Rhodes got by Obrist for third. Lap 60 brought out the 5th caution for debris. On lap 65 Rod Schultz Jr. got into Jim Warn causing him to spin. Schultz got a one lap penalty for the incident. On lap 76 Kelly Mann got by Bob Presley for the lead. The seventh caution came out on lap 81 when racing got tight. Brad Stanwood was on the outside going into turn four when they tried to go three wide. Stanwood got pushed up high and spun. Lap 85 brought out the next caution when Willy Thom got loose and the pack behind him checked up, collecting several cars. Jim Warn was running seventh when he spun on lap 96, lost a lap and then went off the track. Kelly Mann finished out the main event with the win. Mike Obrist finished second with Dan Rhodes in third, Bob Presley in fourth and Willy Thom in fifth. Rod Schultz Sr., Tommy Rasmussen, Shane Sawin, Loren Sutphin and Brad Stanwood were sixth through tenth. Eleventh through fifteenth was Jared Vorse, Jim Warn, Loran Payne, Tom Sweatman and Bobby Wheeler Jr. Steve Woods was the fast qualifier for the Hinkle Homes Pure Stocks. Eric Lee won the B heat race with Brian Wilson in second and Rick Casebolt in third. Jacob Haider led the first two laps of the A heat race before something broke on his car and he went off. Rick Courtright took the lead and the win. Dan Walker finished second and Jared Vorse was third. Eric Lee started on the pole and took the lead on lap one of the main event. The first caution of the race came on lap four when Chris Huisingh spun. The only other caution came on lap 21 for debris. Eric Lee won the race, his first of the season. Rick Courtright was second followed by Dan Walker, Jared Vorse, Steve Woods, Scott Johnson, Bobby Moore, Rick Casebolt, Brian Wilson and Brian Withers. In the Delta Camshaft Mini Stocks, Tom Keehan was the fast qualifier. Freeman Pruitt won the B heat race with Shannon Chase in second and Jerry LaPlante in third. Tim Garske led all eight laps of the A heat race for the win over Tom Keehan and Kevin Koepke. After two complete restarts the main event finally got underway with Shannon Chase taking the lead from his pole starting position. Tom Keehan took the lead on lap nine but on lap 15, Keehan hit the wall hard coming out of turn four. Keehan limped his car off the track without bringing out a caution. Chase was back out front with Tim Garske in second and Marc Nelson in third. Shannon Chase went on to win his first main event ever in the Mini Stock class. Tim Garske finished second with Marc Nelson in third, Kevin Koepke in fourth and Richard Smith in fifth. Michael Hayne, Reggie Gill, Bill Hansel, Devin Matthews and Freeman Pruitt rounded out the top ten. Eric Franson led all eight laps of the first Bumblebee heat race for the win over Brad Newbury and John Davis. Ben Callies won the second heat race with Josh Haynie in second and Kenny Erickson in third. Ron Anctil led the first four laps of the third heat race before a caution came out for Tonya Hird spinning. On the restart Craig Huffman took over the lead and won the race with Anctil in second and Randy Winnfield in third. Zach Floreck took the lead of the first main event on lap two and never looked back for the win with Craig Huffman in second, Brad Newbury in third, Josh Haynie in fourth and John Davis in fifth. Kyle Matthews, Jason Phillips, Joel Tveter, Kenny Erickson and Tracy Smith rounded out the top ten. Ken Meyer led the first lap of the second main event before Brice Bates Jr. took over. Ben Callies and Bates battled side by side for the next ten laps, swapping for the lead many times. Callies finally took the solid lead on lap 13 for the win. Ron Anctil took second and Bates was third. Tonya Hird, Dan Ready, Tom Roper, Randy Winnfield, Amanda Mantegna, Ken Meyer and Kari Bryant were the rest of the top ten. Jeff Holden was the fast qualifier for the NW Baby Grands with a 15.194. Tony Carabello led all eight laps of the heat race for the win over Holden and Lash Larew. The main event was scheduled for 25 but after .six cautions, a lot of clean up by the crew and 35 minutes, it ended up being only 10 laps. Jon Hubbert took the early lead from his outside pole start position. Steven Roberts was running in second and Jeff Holden was third. On lap five Steven Roberts got into Hubbert causing him to spin and causing damage to Roberts car. Roberts had to exit and attempted to come back out but the damage was too much and he was done for the night. Hubbert spun again before a complete lap of green was gotten in bringing out the caution again. Jeff Holden now had the lead with Lash Larew in second and Brooke Lefor in third. A caution came out on lap eight when Dan Larson spun. Brooke Lefor spun before another green lap could be run. After the race was called for time after only ten laps Jeff Holden was the winner. Lash Larew was second, Jon Hubbert was third, Tony Carabello was fourth, Arlyn Long was fifth, Dan Larson was sixth, Brooke Lefor was seventh and Steven Roberts was eighth. Coming up next Saturday night at South Sound Speedway will be the Limited Late Models, WA Midget Racing Association (WMRA), the Vintage Modifieds and Top Notch Trailers Street Stocks. Also paying a special visit will be the Gearlords Car Club from Longview, WA. They will be bringing their classic cars and Hot Rods to do a special intermission show for all the fans. Qualifying begins at 5:00 pm with racing at 6:30 pm.
