HOLMES PEAKS IN NASCAR AUTOZONE ELITE DIVISION EVENT

ERIE, Colorado -- Eric Holmes captured his second win of the season is a star studded NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest/Midwest Series special event. Holmes took the lead from Tim Schendel on lap 65 and never looked back in route to a .162 second victory over Schendel. Nine-time Midwest Series champion Steve Carlson finished third with Rip Michels and Sunoco Rookie David Mayhew rounding out the top five finishers. Schendel paced the field in qualifying earlier in the evening with a quick lap of 16.177 seconds around the fast 3/8-mile paved oval of Colorado National Speedway located outside Denver, Colorado. Thirty-two cars made the starting grid under threatening skies in a race that took just 55 minutes and 10 seconds to complete. There were three lead changes among four drivers with Holmes leading the most laps (85). The action was slowed four times for 30 laps. Carlson picked up the $300 Featherlite Award while Stephan Sadler collected the $750 PowerAde Award.
