Looking to make it a “three-peat” on the winner’s podium after two straight wins, Outlaw Kart teammates Alissa Geving and Mason Moore weren’t able to keep the streak alive for Melo Motorsports, formerly Melo Gordon Motorsports, fighting through a tough night at Cycleland Speedway last Saturday.

Moore qualified his No. 22 Blue Shield of California/Moore Insurance Services/Crystal Geyser Outlaw Kart fourth and brought it home fourth in the Open Intermediate Division, narrowly escaping a crash with a kart that had spun in his line while battling with the leaders late in the race. Geving qualified 11th and finished 10th in the Open Intermediate Division, one week after garnering her first win in the No. 3x A1A Muffler/QRC Karts/Crystal Geyser Outlaw Kart.

With his fourth-place finish, Moore, 15, of Princeton, Calif., maintains his series points lead with three events remaining. Moore finished second in the Trophy Dash. In the Main, he started on the outside of the third row and moved himself into third in what was shaping up to be a hotly contested battle to the checkered flag. As the lead group jockeyed for position, Moore encountered a kart that had spun to the bottom of the race track in the line he was running. Having to take evasive action at the last possible moment, Moore had to give up the fourth spot, earning important championship points to maintain his lead.

Geving’s night had a little bit of everything in it. In her heat race, staring inside on the second row, she immediately got pinched to infield. In just eight laps, she was able to recover to fourth place, which placed her on the outside of Row Seven for the Main Event. With some good hard racing, she was swapping places with two other karts, going between fifth and seventh as the laps clicked off. With just three laps remaining and running seventh, Geving was setting up to pass the sixth place kart which then had to slow for another kart ahead, causing Geving to ride over his wheel and hooking the two karts together. Having to start from the rear with just three laps remaining, Geving was able to climb back to 10th place.

Geving also competed in the Open Main, running points for Colby Copeland. Motor problems made for a long night in the Open Division. After an assist from teammate Mason Moore’s crew utilizing their spare engine, Geving started from the back in the Main and made it all the way to eighth place in the 22-kart field.

Racing action at Cycleland Speedway takes a break this weekend for the Labor Day Holiday. The duo returns to action for Round 16 on September 9.
