AKERS NOTCHES HOBBY CAR VICTORY

Tysen Akers held of past champions and fast time setters to claim the 20-lap Hobby Stock main event Saturday night at Stateline Speedway as the season heads towards the 2006 finale.

Akers, of Rathdrum, Idaho, powered to the lead early in the race, holding off former champion and the night’s fast time setter Brian Husk to take the win. Akers’ victory was his first main event win at Stateline. Monty Collison finished third followed by A Dash winner Ned Pennington and heat winner Kyle Kennedy.

Rob Ballard, the division’s point leader, won the A heat. Bob Flagor won the B Dash.

Dave Garber set fast time and launched by dash and heat winner Kit Van Buskirk to claim the 35-lap feature for the ICAR Series driving for Russ Osbourne. Van Buskirk finished second with Dan Bacon third.

The series paid remembrance and tribute to ICAR driver Andy Allard who passed away unexpectedly earlier this week. Allard won the series’ last race at Stateline two-weeks ago and had driven in the top five all season long. Allard’s son AJ paced the field before the green driving his father’s car in a memorial lap.

In Winged Sprints, Kevin Burck started in the back of the pack and made short work getting to the front to claim the 25-lap main event for the class. Officials nearly ended the race early as Burck was lapping the entire field. Justin Popple finished second. Rod Nelson, Don Kudrna and Mike Tupling won dashes and heats.

On Wednesday, the wild, wacky, unpredictable action of Wednesday Night Fever returns at 6pm with Fever 4’s, Road Runners, plus the cars and superstars of the Bump to Pass division. Adults are just $5.75; kids under the age of nine accompanied by adults are free.

The Inland Northwest Super Stock Series returns for one of the final two races leading to the championship show down. Dan Garber, Mike Behar, and Andy Brown are locked into a three-way battle for the title. NW Pro 4 Trucks and Hobby Stocks are also on track. Qualifying starts at 6pm racing at 7:30pm. Adult admission is $13, Family Passes are $30 and admit two adults and up to three children.
