If you're into highly unusual motorsports events, the kind of thing you see on television in the middle of the week, then you're going to love watching the Hollywood Stuntmen, and their racing antics, at the Willow Springs Speedway in Rosamond this Saturday.
These highly skilled drivers will be presenting the Stuntman 150. This group often runs these races at area tracks just to have some fun and to let off a little steam after a long week on a Hollywood production set. This race will feature street stock cars with two people inside of them: one is the driver and the other the navigator. They will run a 75 lap segment followed a short intermission for repairs and adjustments. At this point the two people in the cars will change places for the second 75 lap segment.
By the way, there's one more element here that makes this event most interesting: water. Prior to the start of each segment the Willow Spring Speedway's quarter mile oval will get drenched by a water truck. We're not talking about a light layer of water like what's placed on your local dirt track. We're talking about the entire track being covered with enough water to drown a toad frog.
With their individual driving skills also comes some very impressive screen credits. On the film side some of these drivers have performed stunts in "A Cinderella Story", "Shrek", "Spiderman 2", "Van Helsing" as well as "The Fast And The Furious." Their television credits include "Scrubs", "24", "CSI", "Charmed", "Boston Legal", "X Files," "Alias", "Desperate Housewives" as well as "Buffy The Vampire Slayer."
Because of their professional skills, these guys know exactly how to lay the chrome horn on someone's rear bumper and turn a car without crashing it into the wall. They're also pretty skilled at slamming each other door to door in the turns as well. In short, it's an evening of highly unusual motorsports fun.
While the focus may be on the Stuntmen this Saturday night, there will be plenty of racing action from the Willow Springs Speedway's regular divisions as well led by the Super Sportsman Division. Chris Peedan, a six time feature winner, leads the standings with 543. Alex Anderson, also a feature winner this season, holds down second 41 points behind the leader. They can expect some stiff competition from two time winner John Penning as well as Randy Wilkins.
The Outlaw I-4/I-6 Modifieds will also be in action this Saturday night. Three time feature winner Jeffrey Goddard leads the division standings with 494 points and holds a 30 point lead over Ric Bronson who's also a feature winner this year. Not to be overlooked here is the presence of Bryan Rungaitis who's also a feature winner.
The Lightning Cup cars, miniature replicas of NASCAR Nextel Cup machines, will also see action this Saturday night at the Willow Springs Speedway. In the Junior Division Joey McKeag leads the standings with 223 points but only holds an 17 point advantage over Kalvin Smith.
In the Senior Division the racing Caskey family are pretty much left to decide who's going to win the season championship. Dean Caskey hold the lead with 228 points but that only 24 points ahead of his wife Patty.
