WCPT AT HAVASU 95 SPEEDWAY

The West Coast Pro Trucks visited Havasu 95 Speedway last Saturday night, the track and show was awesome. It was opening night for the 95 Speedway and they were ready. The entire Speedway looked neat as could be. Everything was nice and clean and the track had two good lines to operate on.

From the time you entered the gate you were treated with warmth and respect, they were truly happy to see you. Every effort seemed to be made to give us everything we needed to be successful. One of the trucks broke a motor on Friday night and Bill Rozhon,

Co-promoter stayed late to run a forklift and help that team pull the broken engine out. He also came in at 6:30 a.m. to assist with the installation of the new motor. He even welded up a hole in their oil pan. As I said they made every effort to help the racers.

The West Coast Pro Truck Race was exciting. The top qualifier was Jeff Williams in the #28 Ford. In the Trophy Dash it was Williams again, starting fourth but managing to take the top spot in the Dash.

In the 50 lap main event there was excitement all over the track. The #10 of Rick Wall led the entire race but had the #28 of Jeff Williams on his back bumper and at times up beside him during the first 15 to 20 laps. Rick in the #10 could pull out a truck length or two as the tires heated up, but every time there was a re-start the #28 would be battling him again. As the race progressed the #18 of Tony Edwards closed the gap in third.

With 20 laps to go the #18 hit the wall on the back stretch, it seemed that the throttle may have hung open and he ended up in the middle of turns three and four. The West Coast Pro Truck Officials believed that the #28 in second place was involved in that accident and penalized him sending him to the rear of the field. With only twenty laps to go there wasnt much time to get back to the front. The #28 was the pole sitter for the night and he was not going to sit at the back. He came roaring through the field passing trucks on every lap and by the time the checkered flag fell Rick Wall in the #10 took the victory, Jeff Williams had returned to 2nd and Ronnie Davis finished third.

It was action packed and all had a great time. After the race many of the competitors stuck around and had great time talking about the race. Many of the Havasu Track Officials stuck around also to have some fun with the racers.

My hat is off to the folks at Havasu 95 Speedway for the great job they did on opening night. You can bet it will be even better as time goes on and they get a few races under their belts. The West Coast Pro Trucks will return on November 4, 2006. See you there.####
