HARDING REPEATS AS CHAMPION AT EVERGREEN SPEEDWAYEVERGREEN SPEEDWAY
Source: Scott Ellsorth
Harding started the night 6-points behind Rob Touchette. Taking the lead on lap 8 of the 75-lap main Harding was never headed the remainder of the race. Touchette’s chance at a first championship came apart when the rear end of his Ford blew apart on lap 23. Having to retire Touchette dejectedly watch the remaining laps in the pits.
Matching last season’s nine wins Harding also repeats as the Super Stock Champion. In the post race celebration burnout Harding’s car shot up into the front stretch wall causing much damage to the car. In the interview Harding could only say “I can not believe I did that and I can not believe I won the championship. I feel bad for Rob (Touchette)”. As Harding was surveying his damaged car he said “I needed to rebuild the car anyhow to insert the new crate motor for next season”.
A 12th place finish for Touchette was enough to hold second place in the final points standing. Doug Davidson finished the season in third after his fourth place run in the main. Roger Habich finished second ahead of Naima Lang.
The Late Model Challenge Series championship 75-lap feature race was won by Roger Habich. A strong run and a miracle save preserved his first LMCS win. The save happened when Roger was in traffic heading into turn one. One of the slower cars chopped down on Habich forcing him to slide up and over turn one of the 3/8-mile when he became airborne. The car landed back on the 5/8-mile sideways and headed towards the wall. Just feet from a disaster Habich regained control and kept the lead. Rob Touchette somewhat vindicated himself with a second place finish. A fourth third of the season for Shelby Thompson was not enough to win the season championship. Troy Conrad won the championship finishing the race fifth.
The 4-cylinder trucks of the Northwest Pro 4 Truck Tour also used the big 5/8-mile to decide their season championship. Bart Hector enjoyed a large lead in the points and rode them onto a first championship. Race winner Pete Brady was unstoppable winning by a full four seconds ahead of Jason Majors and Hector.
