VOLZ UNTOUCHABLE IN MODIFIED WIN

Spokane’s Frank Volz Jr. took command of the Northwest Modified Series main event by lap six of the 50-lap race and never looked back to claim his first victory of 2006 at Stateline Speedway as the Modifieds made their final appearance of the season.

Volz who started mid-pack of the 20-car field passed Dave Weaver after a lap six restart to pull away from the pack to take the win. Volz’s only obstacle of the night, after taking the lead, was from fast time setter Blaine Sneva. Sneva in chase exited from the race when his car lost power down the front stretch.

The race had five cautions, two resulting from spins on the original start. Shane Hesseltine brought out caution three for front end and tire problems in turn four. Shawn O’Reilly and Randy Lerch, the B Heat winner, fell off the pace with mechanical to bring out the final cautions of the night.

Volz’s half a lap lead was followed to the line by Zig Grunert, Weaver in second, 2006 Gary Miller Memorial winner Dan Noble third and Jerry Mastas rounding out the top five. Pole sitter Rick Gimeno finished tenth.

Kit Van Buskirk claimed the ICAR Series’ inaugural season championship by winning the series 25-lap main event over Mike Van Dinter and Steve Bayne. The only incident of the race was for contact between heat winner Larry Bertrand of Rathdrum, Idaho and fast time setter Bayne while the pair battled for third position. Bertrand exited the race in sparks. Bayne held on to claim the third spot.

Doug McMillen out ran a large field of Early Stocks beating dash and heat winner Justin Robideaux and Richard Cox in their season finale. Ken Utke finished fourth with Wednesday Night Fever, Fever 4, driver Will Krasselt fifth.

On Wednesday, the wild, wacky, unpredictable action of Wednesday Night Fever returns at 6pm with Fever 4’s, Road Runners, plus the cars and superstars of the Bump to Pass division. Adults are just $5.75; kids under the age of nine accompanied by adults are free. Championship point battles in Road Runners and Fever 4’s will highlight the evening. Keith Williams will look for his eleventh win of the season in the Bump to Pass feature.

Saturday the Inland Northwest Super Stock Series returns for their final race of the year. Mike Behar, Dan Garber, and Andy Brown are locked into a three-way battle for the title. Behar holds a slight advantage followed by Garber and last week’s winner Brown all of Spokane.

Street Stocks and Hobby Stocks are also on track. Qualifying starts at 6pm racing at 7:30pm. Adult admission is $13, Family Passes are $30 and admit two adults and up to three children.
