The first of the 3-day Fall Classic at Yakima Speedway got the annual extravaganza off to a fantastic start. The largest car count in many years is on hand for the four division weekend of racing. Five western states and two provinces of Canada are represented.
The first event of the weekend took place on Friday night with the nineteenth running of the ‘Race of Champions’. First time winner Travis Bennett (Ellensburg) took the lead on lap six of the 50-lap event. Unchallenged until the last 10-laps when Erick Hargraves (Yakima) made many attempts to go to the front, Bennett with stood the all moves to win the prestigious race. Jack Mondor (Wapato) in his first Race of Champions finished third.
Day two on Saturday gets underway at 12:00PM with second day qualifying for the Late Model and Super Late Model Divisions. The Local Hobby Stocks will also use the clock to decide the running order for their main. The Street Stock Division that has drawn local and visiting drivers will qualify for their respective main.
