With a field of 43 of the regions top Late Model competitors on hand for the USLMA Fall Classic at Colorado National Speedway, the weather wasn’t the only thing heating up this past Saturday. The Feature event of the evening would start only 34 of these cars. With heavy focus on not being one of the nine teams sent home early, the JECO MotorSports crew worked diligently through the morning on setting up the car. Hopes were to wind up with a machine that driver, Bear Lynch, could both qualify well in and one that would still be strong at the end of a long 100-lap event on the 3/8 mile oval.

The JECO MotorSports Dodge began the evening with a qualifying time of 16.475 seconds, placing Lynch 15th quick of the 43 late models on hand. The time put the #08 Dodge in the second qualifying race of the evening. Each qualifier would advance the top twelve finishers on to the night’s main event. Starting the qualifier mid pack, Bear finished in third, earning his spot for the feature.

With the inversion, the JECO MotorSports Intrepid started deep in the Feature field in the 14th position. The #6 of Chris Archer and #83 of Jim Sikes Jr. led the 34 car pack to the green flag. Track conditions were tough for all the competitors. With a somewhat oily and slick surface from several blown motors earlier in the evening, it didn’t take long for the caution flags to begin flying. Lynch began a steady march forward around lap 10 and continued to work his way up. Past the mid-way point, two more blown engines brought out red flags and plenty of oil dry making the racing surface even more challenging. Lynch played cat and mouse with the #56, Danny Burson, of Albuquerque, NM for the majority of the rest of the race. The pair continued to battle while picking up a few additional spots along the way. The #27 Roger Avants, of Littleton, CO took the checkered flags followed by #74 Dan Savage of Aurora, CO and #87 John Webb of Pauls Valley, OK. Lynch’s #08 Dodge came up with an 8th place finish on the evening from the original 34 Late Models that started.

This was the final race of the 2006 season for JECO MotorSports’ “Saturday Night Late Model”. The team, now, will focus on preparing it’s “Touring Late Model” for it’s final event of the season. Bear Lynch will be leading the team with the #108 Dodge Charger to Newton, Iowa for the ASA Late Model Series “Iowa 250” on Saturday, October 14th.
