After a 3 week break the Intermountain Late Model Series was back in action at Rocky Mountain Raceways in West Valley City, Utah. The action got under way with the 25 drivers hot lapping. Things went well until the 3rd hot lap session when Brett Houskeeper #16 and Gary Porter #77 got loose coming out of turn 2, bumping into each other causing them both to spin and giving Don Beamis #29 no where to go, but into the right rear of Houskeeper., causing heavy damage to both cars. Both drivers did get their cars repaired in time for qualifying.

Qualifying saw 24 of the 25 cars present making the call as #99 Jared Elwell was on the trailer after breaking a camshaft in the final hot lap session. Eddie Mckean #19 would take the number one qualifying spot with a 15.45 second run on the 3/8 mile, closely followed by #84 Zan Sharp with a 15.48 run.

The first 15 lap heat race of the day saw Troy Workman #66 jump out front on the start and begin to pull away from the rest of the field building a 1/2 lap lead on the rest of the field by lap seven, with Joe Hood #37, Clint Kidd #88, Rick Ellison #09 and Jeff Flynn #49 battling it out for second. Lap 9 saw Hood move into second position with a long way to go to catch Workman. Hood got some help on lap 10 when caution came out for a crash between Ellison and #8 Nick Lynch coming out of turn two. The restart saw Workman get a great jump and was able to keep Hood behind him for his first heat win of the race season.

The second heat race saw Don Beamis #29 take the lead on the start, where he stayed until lap five when Jeff Hillock #41 passed him for the lead. Lap 6 saw #16 Brett Houskeeper spin down into the infield coming out of turn two, he was able to keep going so no caution came out. Lap 11 saw Houskeeper spin out again, this time coming out of turn four, this time the caution did come out. The restart saw Hillock stay out front for the win closely followed #63 Marty Zehr.

The 50 lap main event started with #50 Fred Walker taking the lead for the first lap, but Troy Workman #66 would pass him for the lead on lap two. Lap 4 saw the race red flagged when the tightly packed field got together going into turn four, causing a massive pileup involving 10 cars which was nearly half of the starting field. Gary Dastrup #96, Brett Houskeeper #16, Jeff Flynn #49, Eddie McKean #19, Russell Butler #25, Nick Lynch #8 and Chris Schrade #34 were done for the night. Three cars where able to make repairs and return. Gary Porter #77 made it back for the restart, but #84 Zan Sharp would return later on 33 laps down and #41 Jeff Hillock would come back 35 laps down.

The restart would see #66 Workman continue his string of great restarts and move out on the field building a ten car length lead over the #50 of Fred Walker. Lap 12 found Walker slipping to 3rd behind #88 Clint Kidd who was closely followed by #09 Rick Ellison. Ten laps later Workman who had been caught by Kidd and Ellsion would begin pulling away from 4th place #63 Marty Zehr which they increased to over half a lap by lap 28. With Kidd and Ellsion fighting to get around Workman, Kidd lost power on Lap 35 going into turn four which turned out to be melted ignition wires, this allowed Ellsion to move into second .

Ellison made his move going into turn four and moved into the lead only to have it negated by a yellow flag for #36 Greg Hillock and #50 Fred Walker in turn two. Another great restart by Workman saw him get a jump on Ellison, who would spend the last 13 laps trying to find his way around #66 car only to come up short as Workman took the checkered flag with Ellison right behind him.####
