Yucaipa, CA When the 2006 season arrived for Brett Edwards and the newly formed Edwards Brothers Racing Team one thing was sure: the learning curve would be steep and difficult. After spending 2005 racing Super Late Models part time at The Bullring at Las Vegas and ASA Pro-4's up and down the western states, the decision to compete for the Super Late Model Rookie Title at Irwindale Speedway was a natural progression for the 21 year old Yucaipa resident.
The opening night of the season ended with a respectable 10th place finish while getting acclimated with the new track and the Goodyear tire compounds. The next six races would produce three more top ten finishes for the team. The middle part of the season would be difficult as the team encountered motor problems. If not for the help of a fellow competitor the team would have surely missed at least three weeks of competition. The final four weeks of the season would include two more top ten finishes with a best finish of sixth in the first 50 lap segment of the season ending race. The final event of 2006 would hopefully produce a glimpse of things to come for the up and coming team. While running second on lap 49 a mechanical failure after contact with the wall would result in a dissapointing 12th place finish. The final score for '06 would be 6 top ten finishes, 10th in final points, and the 2006 Irwindale Speedway Super Late Model Rookie of the Year.
