The Willow Springs Speedway, a quarter mile paved oval located within the Willow Springs International Raceway complex in Rosamond-California, will officially conclude it's 2006 racing season with a special daytime race, beginning at 12 noon, this Saturday, November 4th, featuring action from all of its regular divisions. Following the racing the speedway will hold its annual awards banquet.
In the Super Sportsman Division, Palmdale's Chris Peedan is lined up for his latest Willow Springs championship. The number 98X Dodge driver has been a model of championship form consistency all year long and has amassed seven feature wins and numerous top five finishes. He goes into next Saturday afternoon with a 44 point lead over Rosamond's Alex Anderson who has also been consistent with three feature wins of his own. They can expect plenty of competition from two time winner John Penning and Randy Wilkins who ran very strong during the October 21st race.
It's pretty much the same senario for the I-4/I-6 Outlaw Modified Division. Oxnard's Jeffrey Goddard goes into Saturday afternoon with five feature wins and a 45 point lead over season rival Ric Bronson. However, they can expect plenty of competition from Jody Davis who won his second feature of the year back on October 21st.
The Legends Car Series championship has actually been locked up for several weeks now and Art Neville has just been waiting for someone to engrave his name on the trophy. The Acton driver has three feature wins this year and goes into Saturday afternoon with a commanding 78 point lead. The fact that he had to sit out the October 21st race due to engine failure did not hurt his championship run at all. However, the competition in this division has hit a new level of intensity in recent weeks and Neville will have his hand full with the likes of Bill Vose, Jim Pantier, Bob Kindoll and Justin Hummel along with Chad Scrug and Ryan O'Connor who became first time ever winners last month.
The youngsters in the Bandeleros will also see action this Saturday. In the Bandelero Bandit Division Tyler Fabozzi goes into the final event with a 24 point lead over Aaron Anderson. They, in turn, can expect some hot competition from Jack Madrid is a four time feature winner this season.
In the Bandelero Young Guns group Andrew Anderson, a three time main event winner, goes into Saturday with a 30 point lead over Ashley Ambritz who has one feature win.
The Willow Springs Speedway's other small car division, the Lightning Cups, will also conclude their season this Saturday afternoon. In the Senior Division the season long battle of the Caskey family will end this weekend. Dean Caskey, with two feature wins, has a 30 point lead over his wife Patty who is also a feature winner at Willow Springs.
In the Lightning Cup Junior Division five time feature winner Joey McKeag heads into the final race with a 34 point lead over Kalvin Smith.
Once the final checkered flag has fallen, on the Willow Springs Speedway's final race of the year, it will be time to celebrate the season during the annual awards banquet. The banquet will be held Saturday night at the Essex House Convention Center in Lancaster. The evening begins with a social hour at 730 pm followed by dinner and the awards ceremony. The general public is invited to attend the banquet. Tickets are $25 each and can be obtained at the track through this Saturday.
