PHAKISA FREEWAY SPEEDWAY IN SOUTH AFRICA

Located 250km from Johannesburg near Welcom, the goldmining center, is the very new and expensive Phakisa Freeway Speedway Pronounced (pra-KEE-sha) it has a 4.24km 11 corner roadcourse inside a 2.4km 12 degree banked D shaped oval.It rivals Kyalami as a International Level racing circuit.

SASCAR the new South African NASCAR organisation is selling $50,000(AUS) 500hp Pontiacs, Fords etc. to prospective drivers.Races will be held on several smaller ovals and roadcourses spread through the Republic as well as the Las Vegas Speedway inspired track.

Built initially as an "empowerment project" to create employment in the economically depressed Orang Free Statethe question is :who is going to be there?.

Phaksia decided to test the water by conducting two bike races.Unfortunately for the organisers only several thousand die-hard fans turned up despite the facility's capacity to cater for well over 50,000 fans.

Problem is the track is a bit too far for the cosmopolitan population of Gauteng Province which includes Johannesburg , to come for a race. They prefer Kylamami.

Hopefully the Phaksia CEO Bobby Hartslief can overcome these problems to make his extremely impressive complex a major racing location.####
