ASA SPEED TRUCK CHALLENGE TO HIGHLIGHT WINTER BLAST SERIES AT BLYTHE THIS SATURDAY.

The Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway, a quarter mile paved oval located at the Colorado River Fairgrounds in Blythe-California, will present another round of its 2006-2007 Winter Blast Series this Saturday night, March 3d. Highlighting the racing action will be a special appearance by the ASA Speed Truck Challenge who will be running a 100 lap main event. Also seeing action this Saturday will be the K&N Performance Filters Late Models, the Sunoco Fuel Pure Street Stocks and the Factory Stocks.

The ASA Speed Truck Challenge will officially kick off their 2007 points season in Blythe this Saturday night as well as the 11th season in their history. This regional touring series is designed for full size racing pick up trucks that includes Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, Toyota and Nissan. During the course of the new season the teams will race at eight different tracks, including paved ovals and two road courses, in three different states.

The pair of drivers to watch in the series this year are the same two who dominated the series last year: Darren Young and Lee Hatch from United Nissan Racing. Young won the 2006 championship, by a 22 point margin, over Hatch. Young had 7 wins in 2006 while Hatch visited victory lane four times. Combined, United Nissan Racing won 11 out of the 12 races in the series last year.

The K&N Performance Filters Late Models are having a highly competitive season at the Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway. Four appearances, in the current Winter Blast Series, has turned up four different feature winners. The intensity is expected to be turned up several notches this Saturday night because the Late Model drivers will be racing for double points not only towards the track championship but in the J&B Racing Late Model River Series, in conjunction with the Havasu 95 Speedway in Lake Havasu City-Arizona, as well.

Chris Gerchman, who won the season opener last September, leads the division standings with 192 points but it's only a 12 point lead over 2006 champion Mark Schriner who moved into second place following his first feature win of the series last February 17th. Ron Daniel, also a feature winner, is third in the standings and only 14 points behind the leader. Victor Pfluger holds down fourth and is only 20 markers from the top of the standings. Any combination of good and bad luck among these drivers, especially with double points on the line, could greatly alter these standings.

Traditionally, the points race for the Sunoco Fuel Pure Stocks has always been close and this edition of the Winter Blast Series appears to be no exception. The top three drivers in the points now have two feature wins each and are very close to each other in the standings. Ryan Kerr is on top of the standings with 282 points but only has a six point lead over Richard Selph in second and an 18 point lead over Danny Dill.

The always fun Factory Stocks will also be a big part of this Saturday night at the Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway. In their division standings John Lowrence, who won his first feature of the year February 17th,holds a fairly comfortable lead with 116 points while Brian Sutterfield, also a feature winner in the series, holds down second at 89 points. Jason Freeman goes into Saturday night third in the rankings with 79 points.

A special test and tune session will be available for the racing teams Friday night from 6 to 9 pm. On Saturday the spectator gates open at 4 pm and the racing gets underway at 6 pm. For more details dials up the speedway's official website at www.i10speedway.com.
